What's on your Christmas '06 wish list?

So, what does everyone want for Christmas?

I have been asking my kids so that I can start buying gifts and so that their grandparents and aunts and uncles can have some ideas also.

But for me, it's hard to come up with things....

-gift certificates to local nurseries

-gift certicicate to Michael's for painting/scrapbooking supplies or to Creative Memories for another scrapbook and extra pages

-chocolate/assorted teas/hand lotions

-anything garden/plant related

So, what is on your wish list?

All I want for Christmas is to be surrounded with my family and friends, good food and a few drinks.
Going home to Saskatoon for Christmas.

Sharon, how many hours of driving will that be for you to go to Saskatoon? Hope the weather will be good then for you.

I'd like about 200 new hosta to fit amongst the 200 ferns and 100 hellebore my new dream shade gardens would call for. But that's the easy part. I'd also like the garden space - tilled, and raked and ready for the new plants. Soil must be prepared to my exacting standards. While the soil is being prepared, I would like to spend a long springtime in the south. I'd start in the desert when the spring rains bring the flowering show, and gradually work my way north and east, so I could experience as many springs as possible. Eventually, I'd arrive back home in our own northern spring to contemplate the new garden space. I'd dream about it for a few weeks, twig the design for another few, and then actually plant the new plants. In the meantime, I'd enjoy the hundreds of varieties of peonies I had planted throughout my dream property. I have peonies and some very nice ones too, but I can never devote the garden space I'd like to to a plant that has such a short bloom season, but provides so much beauty in bloom. I agree with Jan - I would love to have Southern Dazzle from Nicole Harry. Now I could also make a want list that is quite long. I would love to have many of the Stamile intros for '09 and some from the Gossards and some from the Rices and on and on and on. I have told my husband that I want $$ for daylilies for Christmas and birthday. I think he will gladly do this since he has such a hard time shopping for me. He is happy for me to make it so easy for him. At least I hope he takes me at my word since I have already reserved Sir Francis Drake and Get Jiggy from Floyd Cove plus won several on the Lily Auction. Happy Holidays, everyone! Ann

It has been a good year for me, finding all the tools I wanted/needed on SALE. Except the Maslin pan, of course, since it's always full price, but so worth it. My 40+ son came for a visit, helped me make Apple Pie Jam, and now wants a Maslin of his own! He's going to need a really big stocking. I've asked Santa for a pocket camera to take photos of what I bake and can for my farm's Facebook page and website. The Olympus Stylus actually has a setting for "cuisine"!!!! LOL MY SIL, the chef, gave me a little potato peeler with a ceramic blade - wonderful for apples too large or too soft to fit into the rotary peeler - it looks like a disposable shaver. On my wish list is a Kyocera Mega-peeler with a much wider ceramic blade that could also be used to shave cheese or chocolate, besides those huge Wolf River apples. The little peeler is on my shopping list for gifting my friends who cook, bake, and/or can, and a Side-Swipe blade for my DD's Kitchenaid stand mixer since she keeps drooling over mine when she uses it. daylilydayzed, that is the most honest answer I have ever heard. Glad to be with you when you got that out. You probably don't remember the show Queen for a Day in the 1950s. The pitiful women would each have a chance to tell the audience what they needed and then the audience voted by clapping and the woman (they were called "the wife" or "the little women" in those days) would get a much needed washer or some other practical gift that they asked for. Well, you would have won with your boots on the ground honesty. I swear, if there is a Santa then this is the year he will show himself to you!!

Here's wishing for good weather for your drive too Sharon. Definately nothing beats being surrounded by family and friends! This year we may have to do much of that via phone/emails/web-cam but that's OK. DH's brother and his wife and kids are staying around here for the holidays too, plus one of my nephews is doing a practicum/internship in Edmonton for the winter so he'll be here too.

What's on my gift wish list? We usually buy the kids a few individual gifts plus one bigger "family gift". Last year we bought lots of fun family games -- Life, Monopoly, Sequence, Clue Jr., plus a few more. We had a blast learning/re-learning them! Our oldest is 10 now so yeah, a few of them were a bit over their heads yet but that's OK -- at least we know they will 'grow into them'! LOL

Not sure what we are going to do this year though. Haven't given it much thought yet!

It's only a 4hr drive Brenda, I got the whole week off, so I hope so too that the weather and roads will be nice.

While there, I'll probably go shopping at Early's and Dutch Growers, my favourite hang out places when I lived there ;)

I can't wait.
