Can you have too many roses? LOL

I have to go pick up half of my roses in a week and the other half is being shipped from another nursery in early June. I have a place for every one of them, but my gardens are going to be pretty full. You can't have too many roses, right? :)

Now that orders are being shipped, does anyone else think they may have gotten a little carried away with internet orders this year? LOL

Time to go dig out more grass...who knew I had 8" of root on the bottom of this quack grass! It's a good thing I have extra soil in the horse pasture, or I'd have sunken gardens with roses.

you can always pull them up later...!

I'm feeling like maybe I bought too many roses, too...

but... I probably didn't. I can always put them in pots on the sideyard, right? and some of them are climbing roses... so it will take them a while to get bigger.

No, no you can NEVER have too many roses. Never. I love, love, love my roses. I can't immagine my garden without roses.

So just keep buying and just keep adding. When they bloom it will look like paradise.

Have you ever seen the big tall poles with a propellor on them. They produce energy and for most people who put them in they produce more energy then they use and they start getting a check from the electic company instead of a bill. Problem is for most people the amountof money they are saving is not even close to the cost of the generator. (Est. $10-20,000_ With a bill of $500 dollars a month it would pay for itself in four years and then your electric is essentially free. I don't know about electric heat, but I would imagine you may still need more power than a single wind generator can produce. If you plan on staying in your house for a while it may be a worth while investment. In my case (or my fathers case) it would take too many years for the generator to pay for itself than is worth while for us and we don't have that kind of money upfront. It is easier to pay for the electric bill each month which is a smaller cost than the wind generator even though the long term costs are higher.

I keep all my seeds in two photo boxes that I bought for 2.99 at Homegoods, one for annuals and one for perennials. I put a through z on 4x6 baggies and stuff the mini baggies of the seeds into the 4x6 envies. They are lined up alphabetical. When I get a package in as I look through it, I sort them into the proper larger envy. I have to say that I can always find what I'm looking for this way. It took a bit to set it up but I have saved time in the long run when giving seeds away. I just have to pull the letter that the seed starts with and viola! Is there really a time that you have too many!

When we had some trees cut down last spring I told the guys that I wanted at least 2-3ft stumps left so that I could plant morning glories to clamber up them - now I am thinking that a couple of these clematis will look pretty climbing up and cascading over the stumps. I am so excited - can't wait to find really neat nooks and crannies to stick them. What I love about them is they don't take up much ground space so you can plant around them and not really loose any garden space plus they give you that visual height plus they are just darn pretty :)..... Hi Annette- Re the broken decanter, ( my cat broke an irreplaceable family item and I know how the loss feels) ) - but for not one of a kind items, I have had good luck with eBay searches which send emails to you of pictures and descriptions from their listings.-follow a search such as "vintage frosted glass decanters." and who knows what might eventually show up. I recently met a fellow rose gardener in my area and we discovered that we both frequent Gardenweb. I found an old post on the Mid-Atlantic forum on which we communicated back in 2005. I stated on that post that I had 20 roses and had no room for more. I have since squeezed in at least another 55 on my 1/4-acre, treed lot.

You can never have too many roses. Of course not. And no gardener ever possibly overdid it with internet orders. Impossible! You need everything you bought.

Yay!! It's not just me. I feel so much better! I went crazy this year. But I did create three new beds. One is very large. But I still think I probably overdid it. Oh well!

lol - never! I went to a talk given by David Austin (the company) and of course, went home with 'Heritage'. Oh, smells so good! Now, I'm trying to decide where I can plant it! You know, DAs get to be like monsters here in the south.

Most of the Austins I tried have since left my garden. They don't play nice with their neighbors, being space hogs and wanting to take over the garden. That doesn't work around here. Plus the flowers blow so quickly, in 3-4 days. Not good enough for me.

David Austins are very pretty, but I tried to stay with the older roses (for the most part) that might have been planted in the last eighty to hundred years (the old farmhouse was built in 1905). I ordered mostly hardy, old-fashioned roses, with a few extras that will rebloom. Many of the old-fashioned only bloom for four to six weeks, but by then, I should have annuals and perennials doing something in front of them.

I couldn't resist a few Sweet Surrender hybrid teas for the front porch. They're so pretty and have a wonderful fragrance, but much like the star jasmine I put in pots on each corner of the porch...they're more like annuals in my zone.

In a few beds, I have smaller blooms (polyanthas and some hybrid musks) that repeat, which should be a nice contrast to the bigger damasks, gallicas, albas and centifolias. I'm totally hooked :)

I only have 3 knockout roses by my mailbox. This year I wanted some
roses that smelled good. I bought 4 David Austin's for $75 including
shipping. I've heard so many good things about them. I will see how
they do in the humidity here. Now last year I do think I got carried
away with ordering daylilies. That buy one get two free deal, and the
BOGO deal. At least I will have more beautiful flowers to look at this
summer.

Nope, you can't! My roses are all blooming their fool heads off right now. I love them. The dark red I planted two years ago from a tiny shoot is now a gorgeous bush full of black red roses. I have no idea what rose it is, but it is healthy as a horse on it's own roots here.
I just renovated the shade garden which moves out into the sunny garden...and I think at the very end it would be a nice place for ... yep, another rose :)
