Soooo - can one ever have too many

Clematis?????? - We had an 'ooopppsss' in watering at our local Lowes and as a result a whole cart of Clematis got marked down 75% - now most of the clematis were OK - only the ones at the edges showed signs of water neglect but when you can get them for $1.50 in 4" pots I guess you tend to load up - bought 7 yesterday and hubby is back down there today to get some for my sister and my daughter. Granted these are the basic cultivars but hey they still bloom pretty. I love a bargain.......

How lucky! Basics are my favorite, because they tend to be the most sturdy--likely to do well. I recently bought a wilted, drooping Coreopsis, unfortunately not marked down in price. She perked right up after being planted and watered.

The three hybridized hollyhocks I bought only lasted the typical two years of a biennial. The old-fashioned, basic, variety is coming back for a fifth year.

DH thinks I have too many larkspur. They are setting seed now and I have harvested about 6 lbs of seeds so far. When he asked me if I didn't already have enough, I said it's not a matter of having too much, it's only a matter of how much I have. Larkspur, anyone? Cheryl

only one software firewall can be run on an Operating system, you can have a software firewall program and also have a router which has a built in hardware firewall. If you add a stand alone firewall program like zone alarm for example you would only want that one active, you would want to make sure that the one built into windows is turned off and let just zone alarm take care of it.

Okay, now here is a slight hijack for all of you lovers of green. Being a "green person" I painted my kitchen BM Saybrook Sage several years ago. I love it and so does DH (he said he was surprised at how much he likes it). I painted the cabinets a creamy white (BM Lily of the Valley) and like that with the green. Problem is that we have two and sometimes three large long-haired dogs who sometimes get past us when they are wet and shake. We also have 60-something eyes that often miss drips or dirt on the cabinets unless I put on my glasses and look carefully. DH doesn't even bother to look! Now, I am not saying I won't be cleaning, but I do want to avoid that moment of horror that I occasionally get if someone drops by and then I notice drips or something after they go and wonder what they thought if they noticed the mess. So, does anyone have any ideas of a shade I could paint the lower cabinets that would work with the sage and with the upper cabinets which will stay white (dark kitchen when lights aren't on during the day). Thanks and feel free to ignore me if you think I should start a new thread. Just seemed that with all of us loving green, this would be a good time!

How many cats is too many for one household?

Five was way way too many. This was because two cats were dumped off at me when I already had three. The owners were friends who couldn't move into their new housing with their cats (they were foreclosed out of their house and had to move to an apartment that would work for their autistic daughter - but alas allowed no pets). I wanted to move the cats to a no-kill shelter, but there was a three plus month waiting list. So, I kept them. It was way too many because the first three and the second two did not REMOTELY get along. Ever. I tried everything. Okay, Serenity (my oldest cat at nearly 17.5 years) would, and still does, get along with everyone -- but the other four??? Naw. I had to keep some in the basement, some upstairs. We all hated this. At the moment, I have two cats. Three would be fine at a maximum, but they all have to at least tolerate each other!!!!

@Lucy, good candles don't leave a sooty waxy residue (or any other kind of residue) on the walls. I don't have decorative candles around the house; they would be unlikely to get washed or dusted in our household. We do burn candles for Shabbat every week and on other holidays. Like others above, we prefer unfragranced. Northern Lights candles are really good. They burn very cleanly and brightly without dripping. Their website has separate sections for fragranced and unfragranced making it easy if you prefer unfragranced. It will be late for some, but they are having a Labor Day weekend sale of 20% off (until midnight EST). They are also giving 10% to a charity for the month of September. Cheryl I am the same way about larkspur - I have it reseeded in every garden I have - my place is a sea of blue right now and will stay that way till the end of June - then the gloriosa daisies/rubeckias and daylilies take over - one can never have too many of their favoite and easy to grow flowers. Hubby just came back with 11 more - my sister and daughter are going to be so surprised and thrilled ....

Lynne you can never have to many Clematis I think I'm approaching 30 if I'm not already there. Congratulations on the great score, I'm sure you will get a lot of enjoyment out of each and every one of them, plus every time you look at one you'll be thinking ....and that only cost $1.50. I'd be doing the happy dance.

I say good for you Lynne. I think I am up to 9 clematis now and they were all purchased this year since I just bought this house last year. I am finding myself getting more and more "creative" for places to use them which is really fun.

I just found a random Marie Louise Jensen at a local Lowes which I wouldn't think of as a common and it is crazy healthy. I planted it next to my Earth Song Buck rose. What a combo! Those blooms together are just gorgeous even for first year plants.

Ahhh... it really is the little things. :-)

When we had some trees cut down last spring I told the guys that I wanted at least 2-3ft stumps left so that I could plant morning glories to clamber up them - now I am thinking that a couple of these clematis will look pretty climbing up and cascading over the stumps. I am so excited - can't wait to find really neat nooks and crannies to stick them. What I love about them is they don't take up much ground space so you can plant around them and not really loose any garden space plus they give you that visual height plus they are just darn pretty :).....
