If I understand you, you were given blooming potted tulips which are now through blooming but still has green foliage. You may plant them in the garden now in a well drained spot where they won't rot from summer water and let the foliage die back as the bulb is replenished for next year. Most people do not think this worth the trouble for a tulip that will probably not bloom next year. The cost of tulip bulbs that WILL bloom is only pennies. Al

Nancy- I didn't think about it until you pointed it out but the tulips really are just in time for easter. Not a big deal for me now but it brings back memories of when I was a child. My dad really loved tulips and always had some planted. My mom and I always had to stand in front of the tulip display for in our easter outfits for pictures on Easter Sunday. I have always loved tulips as long as I can remember and I am sure that it goes back to these childhood memories. Christine- The tulips are the Scheepers Early Tulip Mix. When they started blooming this spring with the purple tulips, I was surprised to see that color. I went back to their website and checked again and sure enough, it was supposed to be a mix of hot colors like red, yellow, orange and blends but no purple or pink. But I like the purple in there, I think it looks good so I don't mind. The terracing does make it easier to show off the plants plus I can squeeze lots more in than I ever could if I had a flat yard. I am really glad that front yard space is terraced as it shows off the bulb disply so well. I had to look up camassia as I have never heard of it. Thanks for the suggestion but it doesn't appeal to be at all.

mrsgalihad...looks like you had a GREAT Easter. Our children are all grown and live 4+ hours away. We were unable to visit them and the grandkids, so worked in the yard instead. susie, I think the beds will work out great. Will let you know after planting and when we actually get to pick berries next year! flowerlady, we just love strawberries and so do the grandkids. One family has to make the trip down every year just so the two boys can "help" grandma pick berries. The oldest has already mentioned it this spring. His mom had to tell him that there will be no berries to pick this year. Usually I make 60-70 half-pints of strawberry jam and another 50-60 half-pints of raspberry jam and it is dispersed to all children/grandchildren. I sure hope the berries I bought will produce well. The old bed was planted by the previous owner and I do not know what kind the berries were. The picture below shows 1 evening's picking to give you an idea of just how many berries we got in the past. And why standing on my head just didn't cut it anymore!! :-)

Flora, You are such a smartie! I wish I had thought of the liner pots. Darn! That makes perfectly good sense. I changed out some of the plants today. I bought some Lobelia and put those in with the violet-blue violas and pink Diascia. It looked a bit boring, so I spiced it up with one Johnny-Jump-Up with vibrant yellows and dark centers. It looks much better. I think it needs something, but not sure what. Maybe when all the surrounding plants start blooming it will be enough. I will just watch and see how it looks next month. The joys of gardening - being able to move things around until you are satisfied with the outcome...for awhile. I planted creeping lemon thyme in between my pavers last fall. It has filled in nicely, but I do LOVE the dog violets between yours. I have been collecting violets for several years. I now have four colors or varieties. I have no idea what their proper names are; I just dig them up when I find a new color or size. I just love their colors and variations. I allow them to grow willy nilly where they will, and only cull them out where I want to plant a new flower. So, you can see why yours growing between the pavers would especially appeal to me.
