Am I a dummy?

Back in February (late), I saw a daylily I really loved in the White Flower Farm catalog. I have never ordered DL's from them but couldn't resist. It is H. ELEONORE.

I read quite a bit of info about it and there seemed to be the shadow of mericloning over it. There were quite a few people telling how beautiful theirs is.

Anyway, has any of you grown this DL, how is it? Should I expect that this one is not a mericlone? It wasn't expensive.

Hi Kay -- I don't think I know what a "mericlone" is, but I remember Mr. Verhart posting here in a previous thread about his cultivar "Eleonore" NOT being the one that is offered in the Wayside catalog. Check the previous threads with the name of that daylily to find out what he said.

Question #1 - Here is an article expounding the features of WMP11 you might find interesting. #3 - You obviously have, or had at that time, connection problems between yourself and your ISP. Any time you need an answer try Googling, if the first attempt does not answer your need then rephrase the query. As you bring up a list try looking through for those written in a style you are comfortable with. Any of these can be added to your Favourites or Bookmarks for future reference.

This isn't quilt related, but has to do with klutzy sewing. Way back when I was first married, I decided to treat myself to a large quantity of real wool fabric and spring for one of those expensive Vogue patterns. (read newly wed students and living on shoestrings). It was a difficult and tricky pattern with trousers and a fitting and silk lined jacket, and Vogue back then just assumed you didn't need much direction. It turned out really beautiful, but the arms (even though I got them set into the holes perfectly) just didn't look right. When I finally finished it and put it on it struck me I had both sleeves set in backward. There was no way I was going to take it apart and redo it. It looked fine as long as you didn't move your arms. (I felt like an irish dancer with the feet moving and the arms at my side) Needless to say I only wore it one time and then decided I really needed to move my arms and the jacket hit the rubbish bin. Now that I quilt, I actually check my work once in awhile as it is in progress. I also have a little more patience. Quilting does teach one patience and humility.

The previous posters are essentially correct. Mortar is merely a broader classification. Thinset is really a shorthand way of saying thinset mortar, and is one of several types of mortars you can buy. You can also get medium-set mortar if you are laying large heavy tiles or mortar designed for laying bricks or concrete blocks. You can use thinset in either of the ways you describe, spread it onto the surface, and press the tess into it, or put the thinset onto the tess and press them onto the surface. Both methods can work, its mostly a matter of which makes job easiest. You can even do both, spread the thinset in a thin even layer onto the surface, and butter the back of the tess, and press then into place. When people refer to using thinset as a sealer, they mean coating the surface with a thin layer of thinset and let it harder completely, so that the surface is sealed, before starting to attach tess to it. They are also right that if it is pre-mixed, and comes in a bucket, it is not thinset, period, irrespective of any label on the container.

I'd be less worried about the TC than the fact that WFF has only 63% positive feedback over on Garden Watchdog.

garasaki - tissue culture is a method of propagating a plant directly from the tissues, no division or seeds involved. Unfortunately, the plants often don't come true or are inferior to the original.
