Hey, first fancy daffodils blooms today (pics)

These are the first of the orange trumpet fancy daffs that I put in last fall.

Blooming out in the front yard. The flowers are small but oh so pretty. I think these are MARIA.

Meanwhile the R. EARLY SENSATION daffs in the front have all opened.

I just love the way they look en mass all blooming like that.

The other side looks good too but I think I need to add more bulbs this fall. Thing is since this side has a daffodil mix, there should be bloom for a much longer period instead of all at once like the others.

I want to add more daffs at each end, then put daffs way up on top there were the shrubs are. Then I haven't made a finial decision yet as to what other bulbs I will add to the bottom flat part.

Meanwhile liliies are poking their noses out of the ground.

The upstairs center backyard is showing more green and the promise of all those Dutch Iris to bloom.

And crocus are still blooming.

Aren't they pretty, though? I love the color. Everything's looking up in those gorgeous terraces.

The left side terraces out front need more work but it's all getting there. So far of all my daffs these orange trumpet ones are my favorites. I just love them. I am going to get another batch of 50 from Brent and Beckies for this fall and plant them in my third terrace of the backyard terraces garden. In front of the lilies that bloom in June.

Some of you knew that I worked 24 hours on and 24 hours off taking care of an Elderly (OLDER than me) lady in her 90's. She is not doing too well and so they let two of us go. She's not expected to live much longer so it's probably a blessing in disguise. At my age and where we live there really are no jobs. Around here just having ANY job is considered a good job. Unless you are familiar with rural areas you probably can not relate to this. LOL I just have to put my faith in the good Lord that he will provide me with whatever I will need. Notice I didn't say with whatever "I Want". Karyn, you are OH SO VERY RIGHT. It is a perfect time to be off for awhile and work in the yard/fields and so forth. I have a bunch of trees that the wind blew down that need to be pushed up and burned and lots of little odds and end jobs on the place to tidy up. The only bad thing about that is that it will be much harder work, and NO PAY. LOL Well I guess the pay will be having it cleaned up and looking better. Now if these Thunder Storms would move out I could get back to planting my daffodils and so forth. Needless to say, that dumb hole (New Pond) in the front yard is full of water AGAIN. I'd love to be able to get the darn liner in it before NEXT WINTER. LOL We're suppose to have another round of storms at the end of the week. Go Figure. This is exactly what happened last year and it rained EVERYDAY for over 2 months here. I pray we're not in for a repeat of that. Didn't mean to write a book, but I always feel better when talking about plants and so forth. Happy Gardening Ya'll and please pray for me. Love Marian

Kay, you know I have really gorgous daylilies but these certainly are not them. This was when I was trying to extend the season by getting early bloom. A total failure as far as I am concerned. As soon as I realized what I would get (small yellow flowers) I decided Iris was the way to go and got into Tall Bearded and Siberian Iris. I figgured the TB would bloom first, then the Sibs, then the roses. But they are all blooming now although the TB did start first. LOUISE CLEMENTS and NEW ORLEANS are both Clements introductions from Heirloom Roses. I have lots of Clements roses and I simply love, love love them. They are just so beautiful. May I suggest if you start a rose garden you group a bunch of roses closer together for maximum impact instead of going for the one rose here and there type of planting. Then you leave space around the entire cluster of roses.

Debra: Isn't FB something? She looks like a double of Seal of Approval to me. :) Kathy: Yes, there is just no subsitute for a good old soaking rain, is there? It seems to just perk the poor old dried out plants right up in a matter of hours. Ellie: Thanks, and I'm glad you got some rain also. I think Pugsley is a cutie, but I know you're not overly fond of bi-tones. If you don't like her you can probably send her on down to you sister's along with CC you got from Marietta! :) Jean: Thanks Hon, glad you enjoyed seeing them. Jill: I love AW too. This is SW first bloom season in my garden and that's a photo of it's first bloom. I'm not seeing much of the pink edging yet...but...hopefully it'll shape up soon. Hey, you never did come for that visit, and my blooms are sporadic at best now. I've got lots of rebloom scapes, and also late bloomers coming on, but the main show is all but over for me. Peak season this year was really weak in my gardens. I lost so many buds to the drought. I am glad you got some rain, too.A little fell here, too, but not enough to help this hard ground here, but,just got a weather bullentin that severe storms with hail and high winds are on the way.I can do without the hail and wind,but the rain is much needed. I just love that SURF. its gorgeous,and so is VERY BERRY ICE.LOve them Bi Tones.maybe some day I will have a couple/Your blooms looks so pretty with the rain drops on them.Love it. Jean

I really like your clumps of daffodils, Rita. I LOVE daffodils en masse. One of the coolest things I've seen besides California lawns covered in ice plants is this yard completely on a slope and the daffodils are planted spilling over the hillls edge and they've multiplied and it's incredibly AWESOME. It's nice to see lily noses peeking up, too. For some reason I like their whirled leaf shape when coming up!

I sure like the fancy Daffs.They looking really good Rita.They also have a fancy Daff that has a peach color Trumpet and one thats pink trumpet, too.I dont have any, but, use to have a friend that had all kinds shipped in,and until then,I didnt know they had so many colors of them.There was one that was called King Alfred, that was huge.The tulips are coming up too,aren't they?

Jean- I never tried any of the fancier daffs until last fall when I got a bunch of types. I can't wait to see them all bloom. I just have to get even more for fall.

The tulips are comming up well but still are just short leaves. They are going to look fabulous blooming this spring too.

crackingtheconcrete- I have tulips planted in front of those R. EARLY SENSATION daffs out in front plus I have early tulips over on the other side. So the bulb show should go on quite nicely even after the daffs. But those EARLY SENSATIONs really look the way I wanted with them all open like that. The other side has the mix and I didn't really think about the fact that of course the mix would not all open at once. But it will make them last longer. I just need to add more on both sides to add to the mass effect.

When more of the orangy ones open I will have them en mass too, all along the pathway to the street from my front porch. I have those on one side (50 of them all the same) and 50 of another orange trumpet on the other side of the walkway not open yet.

Very pretty, I like your daffs. I have several of the vivid orange/red daffs that I love, they really stand out.

I can see that I am going to have to order more orange trumpet types. I like the extra splash of color.

Its raining today as well as rain forcast for most of the rest of this week so I can't really get out there and get a better view of my fancy new daffs blooming. But blooming they are. I have these all along the front walkway to the street and they are opening all along, not just the ones in this cluster from the other day. I guess these were in the most sun. I have more orange trumpets on the other side of the walkway too. I envisioned both sides open at once when I planted them but that might not turn out to be so.

Love those big clumps of Early Sensation--and I can see with all the daylily and iris foliage that you are going to have quite a show all season long.
It's raining here too--as a matter of fact it's pouring at the moment. The weather this year is so different from last year.

We had storms here yesterday,and very windy.2 inches of rain,and thats the first rain in several months for here.Today is sunny and cooler, in the mid 60's.Nice day.

I am going crazy waiting for more flowers to get going in the garden as I just want to get out there and take pictures. I am really working on the master plan for the daylily and iris bed areas. Supposed to have lilies and spring bulbs to make the bloom season just keep right on going. That's what I am planning now, the addition of more bulbs this fall to make next spring even better.

Rained yesterday and then rained this afternoon again. It might rain the rest of this week. I did get out there and messed around in the garden for awhile but no picture taking today.

Hearing about everybody's beautiful daffs is great---mine
aren't opening yet. I have nearly all yellow ones and a
few cream colored one.

I nearly cry when I think of my great number of fancy daffs, so beautiful, such a lovely variety of colors, the
pinks were magnificent. One had creamy petals and pink
trumpets---heavenly pink.

Anyway, these bulbs came up and bloomed for 2 years and
no more except for a big double pink and white. After all
our work and then the wonderful flowers and then nothing.

I have since read that most of the fancy hybrids don't live
very long.
