need suggestions for yellow daylilies

I am trying to add some yellow daylilies to my collection. I want a nice lemon or pale yellow with no gold tones. I want one with a purple eye and edge, and one with a watermark. Any suggestions on varieties that will grow well in PA. I have way too many purples and need to mix it up a bit. I have happy returns and 3 yellows that I bred form a combo of wilson spider and another yellow spider that I have, but I don't want all spiders in my garden either.

good old fashion hyperion is a pale yellow lily that will do well in PA.

Hi Pam, I have several yellow's, I'll see what I have and what needs divided and get back to you. Did you hear our Krista is going to have a baby? I'll check on the purple eye and edge and one with watermarks, I should have several of those also. I want to decrease the amount of daylilies that I have, I'm growing a lot of seedlings and need the room to put them. Maybe you can come by and pick them up.

Thanks, everyone! I really appreciate all the input. gardenweed - thank you for that extensive list of suggestions! I have a lot of researching to do! To the very far right of the picture, under my cheesey purple-spray-painted container, is a nepeta walkers low and love it. I think I might move a heliopsis clump over there... we'll see. I've been thinking about an agastache and lady's mantle. I have a cushion spurge in front and absolutely love it. Definitely have lots of things to look into! Barb - I love the look of that Caryopteris. Yours is beautiful! Donna - I have sooo many May Night Salvias... would you believe I never thought of them!? Ha! I could easily use some here. I absolutely love them (and meadow sage) Dee - I have plenty of both daffs and grape hyacinth bulbs (not sure on the specific daffodil name) The only problem with the GHs is that the baby (the one on the deck) likes to dig up the bulbs... Hardly ever does any bad digging or plant eating but he had a FIELD DAY digging them up last fall. He actually dug them all up, I just collected them. This spot gets about 6 hours of sun but sometimes trees and the deck create shady spots. I'm hoping to move the phlox I have away from the deck so it gets more sun. I also didn't pinch them back as I should have (I guess?) so I'm hoping they wont need to be strapped up next year. I'm sure the massive amounts of rain we've been getting doesn't help, either. SouthCountryGuy - I like the rudbeckia prairie sun! I've never seen that one before - very nice! Karin - I agree with the ornamental grass! I'd love some zebra grass - I love how tall and showy it is without being too distracting. That hyperion is beautiful, too! I have so many day lilies (most of which never bloomed last year because they got trampled) but what did bloom was some very plain yellow - nothing like hyperion! I will definitely be considering that one! And in my opinion, you can't do wrong with russian sage :) I've got a lot of planning ahead now (half the fun). I'll definitely post progress and how the "final" product ends up (is anything ever really final?). I'll also let the dogs all know they're cute faces are convincing.... :)

1-4" of sand is pretty easy to amend, and I did just like Dick says above... just get a bunch of top soil, compost, manure, worm castings, mushroom compost, and any other stuff you can get your hands on to add substance and nutrients to the soil. Good luck!

My favorites for their sparkling, clear yellow and large blooms are BURIED TREASURE and SILOAM AMAZING GRACE.

My all time favorite yellow is Banana Glow. I also like Siloam Harold Flickinger, Irish Sunrise, Yellow Green Monarch (hard to find). All of these are nice bright lemon yellow. I'm not a fan of gold-yellow either.

Hudson Valley grows well here - 8.5 inch flower.
Big Bird, another good grower looks bigger than it's 7 inches.
Mynelle's Starfish is just gorgeous - large,10 inch flower with a unique shape, but is a very short plant.
Prairie Moonlight is another lovely yellow with an 8 inch flower.

And for yellow spider shapes,
Easy Ned, Twist of Lemon, Spider Miracle, and Rococo are yellow, with no gold tones.

I don't know if it does well in every zone, but I love Betty Warren Woods. I don't like gold or orangy tones and Betty is a beautifully shaped yellow. I also saw a beautiful yellow yesterday at a daylily farm, called Emerald Splendor, which has some green tones in the yellow.

I agree on hyperion, Happy Returns or Stella Supreme are really nice yellows too. For a very pale creamy yellow I like So Lovely

Caribbean Double Lemon is my favorite of my lemon daylilies

My second favorite is Cabbage Flower, but it's not as big a flower and blooms early.

Betty Warren Woods will do well for you in your zone. It does fine in z5.
