Need daylily memorial suggestions

Hi all, I have a friend whose sister just passed away from breast cancer. Her name was Teresa. Do you know of any daylily that would serve as an appropriate memorial? Something with the name Teresa or Tess, or with an angel-type or inspirational name? If you know where I could get the daylily, that would be very helpful as well. Thanks!

Only one I could find was TERESA MY DARLENE. It's listed on the LA for $26 right now.

Thanks, greenthumbfish! What is LA? In thinking more about a good memorial flower -- I think anything with the name Teresa (obviously), but if that isn't possible, something like "Remembrance" or "Angel -- anything" or anything with a Biblical reference would be good. This person is really religious and I think something with a religious name would work. Thanks again.

Hudson Valley grows well here - 8.5 inch flower. Big Bird, another good grower looks bigger than it's 7 inches. Mynelle's Starfish is just gorgeous - large,10 inch flower with a unique shape, but is a very short plant. Prairie Moonlight is another lovely yellow with an 8 inch flower. And for yellow spider shapes, Easy Ned, Twist of Lemon, Spider Miracle, and Rococo are yellow, with no gold tones. Linda

I put in a large DL bed in one go a number of years ago. I looked for a good mix of Early, mid and late season bloomers. You are warm enough to even look for repeat bloomers. Purples and Pinks are a little difficult to photograph to their true color so look in more then one site to compare the color of a favorite to see if it looks like the color you want "most times" I also looked on "Tinkers" data base as those photos come from gardeners not sellers. Many purples will look plum or reddish purple. If you want a blue purple look for the word blue in the written description of the variety. If you get a chance to go to a local DL farm in person, do research ahead of your trip. See if you can get the farms list ahead of time and look up the ones you are interested in on Tinkers. http://www.daylilydb.com/ When you visit a DL farm the color you see that day may not be exactly what you get in your garden. The time of day, the temperature, the conditions on the farm effect the color. I live near a DL farm " Cottage Gardens Daylilies" in Medina NY. I bought a number of DLs on a cool day after an early morning rain. They looked true purple to me that day. When grown in my garden they were Maroon, burgundy, wine colors , not the blue purple I saw that day. This is not to make things more complicated for you, just my experience shared. That is one of the good things about doing a big bed, there is room for all shades of color. Good luck and have fun!

sjmarq--I am so sorry for your loss, and hope you are working through this difficult time. A memorial garden is a wonderful idea, and will bring you many years of joy and memories. In addition to the excellent suggestions above, you might consider getting some seedlings that are not yet named, and naming them yourself after the two people you lost. Many of the people on this forum raise lots of seedlings, and I'm sure plenty of them would be willing to send you one or two. I have many in my own garden, and would gladly send you something if you like solids, but there are plenty of interesting variegated and streaked seedlings out there that might need a new home. There are also seedlings sold on the Hosta Library auction site, and you might find something there that you like, or you could post on the exchanges section of this forum if you would like to trade for plants. Ken is exactly right about Remember Me--it's a lovely little plant that often doesn't grow worth a darn under the best of circumstances, and many people have been disappointed with this one. Guardian Angel is not only a beautiful plant, it's an excellent grower, and very hardy. It does require a large spot, however--it will get nearly as large as Blue Angel. There is a whole series of 'Angel' hosta names out there, from Blue Angel to Angel Feathers, and any of these might be appropriate. Praying Hands is another possibility, or perhaps Tiny Tears. It might help to narrow your choices if you know what size plant you want for the space you have in mind, and if you have a particular color or variegation pattern in mind.

Calling All Angels... there are a lot of them. Go to Tinker's link that greenthumbfish gave you and click on the online database. Type angel and then hit the spacebar into the cultivar box on the search page and a list will appear as a drop-down menu.

I'm not a daylily expert like many of these people, but when I heard of the daylily name 'How Beautiful Heaven Must Be' I just knew it was a must for a memorial to my loved one who has crossed over. The loss of a loved one is so hard on the living that it's comforting to me to just look at the daylily and say it's name; then I remember where she is and how happy she must be.

I would also suggest "HBHMB" Maryl. A special friend sent that one to me for my Mom's memorial garden and I love it. It does make you remember that your loved one has gone to a far better place, doesn't it.

Here are a few more below to consider -- most of them were hybridized by Jack Carpenter in Center, Texas; his daylilies are beautiful. Seven Angels wasn't --- but it's really a beautiful daylily, too.
