Update photos of my daylily seed sprouts

After almost a month (in which 3 weeks' absence), I finally could pot up my daylily sprouts yesterday. I potted them in potting soil + vermiculite + perlite.

Here're the update photos of the seedlings.

I have two "all white" seedlings in the group. Why so? They were sprouting in the same glass with some others green ones. What should I do with them?

So all the six varieties from Annette have sprouted for me. I'm extremely happy with this first result. Now, the seedlings are in the shade house, waiting to be planted in the garden when the rainy season comes.

The white seedlings have a genetic defect and do not contain cholorophil. Without that, they cannot process sunlight and without that ability, they cannot live. As soon as the nutrition in the seed is used up, they will wither and die. Sorry! Always a disappointment when something like that happens. It has happened among my seeds a couple of times every year.

Looking good Xuan, to bad about the white ones but it looks like you've got a few to play with. Hopefully you will get one or two really nice ones out of this lot.

Good luck with those seeds, hopefully they will turn out to be what the seller claimed them to be. I ordered some Butterfly weed seeds from China on ebay this winter, they were very cheap and I was curious to check them out for .99 with free shipping. Well the seeds were round and green - not even remotely milkweed seeds! I threw them away. Who knows what they were.

Hi I want to say that I enjoyed looking at all your daylilies. Very nice collection! I didn't look at the full size of all of them but I did notice when I clicked on Patrician Splendor it linked me to a larger size of Princess of Wales. I clicked on that one because I just ordered it and now I can't wait to see it! Great job the way! :)

Daylily seeds sprouting in pod. What to do?

lisa_3: I had the same issue come up last year with Substantial Evidence (this year was too crazy hot during bloom season for it to set seed)--about 1/2 of the seeds had germinated in the pod. I planted the sprouted seeds immediately and they proved to be viable and grew all winter long before being planted this past spring. The remaining, ungerminated seed got thrown into a baggie with plain water (no H2O2) in the fridge for three weeks and then planted, still ungerminated. Most of those also sprouted and grew. I'm thinking the pod germinating is just another quirky thing about Substantial Evidence and its offspring, although I haven't yet grown out seed from any other members in the line off of my own plants. I have bought seeds out of Pigment of the Imagination, but those behaved like any other seeds--come to think of it, the pod parent was a Faulkner seedling rather than POTI.

Thanks for the advice, Larry. Perhaps I shouldn't care so much about those two whites.

Annette, I hope so, too. I'll take good care of them to make sure they grow well.
