Piece of Sky, Oh my word!!

I just read on here today about this daylily, 'Piece of Sky', and they were going on and on about this daylily, so I had to look it up. I was like, 'What could possibly be so amazing?' But it really was. So, if you have not looked at it yet, DO IT!!

Hi Folks, Everything is fine, no power loss or anything. I'm just in a bad mood with all this %$#? snow piled up. I haven't driven anywhere yet but have an appointment at 10:30 so hopefully I won't have any problems getting there. I should have had DH leave me the Explorer (4WD) but didn't think of it but my van usually does alright in snow. We didn't even bother digging out the honda. lol DH tried to cheer me up by bringing me home a case of assorted hoyas. You can't get near a shopping center during normal business hours. Malls are unbelieveably packed so many are staying open 24/7 until Christmas eve. They lost so much business by being closed last weekend. Maybe I'll go shopping late tonight to cheer myself up. Such a big snowfall was a novelty for the first 2 days, now it just sucks! Oh yeah the weather service is saying that more snow or maybe rain is a possibility for Fri!

I am so confused and frazzled. Every time I think I have a handle on this durability and non porous thing, I choose a stone and after research find so many things potentially wrong with it. I saw a beautiful slab of Macaubus Fantasy, but have since seen mention that it will stain. I need something that is fairly indestructible. I live near the beach and have lots of company, but I am often away for a week at a time and not around to keep wiping the countertops. Even if I am home, I don't want to baby a countertop that will never grow up. Which of these stones should I stay away from and which are definitely good? Macaubus Fantasy "Quartzite" Allure Quartzite (does practicality increase/decrease if it's leathered?) River Blue Granite Or are my only sure choices Taj Mahal or Sea Pearl? I'd appreciate any feedback

1)Wolf cooktops do not massively out perform standard cooktops. They perform better than standard cooktops,offer top notch quality,Wolf has great service,and if by cooktop you mean rangetop then they have those iconic red knobs you see in kitchen magazines. 2) Capital Culinarian Rangetops and Bluestar RNB Rangetops & Cooktops do massively outperform the competition. You should look into the threads on these in the Appliance forum.These brands are too small to cause a blip at JD Powers and Consumer Reports.They don't test them or survey their owvers. 3) I do most of my cooking on top of burners not in ovens so that would be my first priority. 4)Wolf ovens do massively outperform the standard oven. There is one I like better; Gaggenau. Gagg offers side opening doors so you don't have to reach over a hot oven door and a catalytic converter that cleans the air of grease and odors before releasing air back into your kitchen. Again too niche a brand to be reviewed by CR or surveyed by JD Powers. 5) Range hoods Bargain priced ; I think your best bet is Kobe Hoods. Premium; Best craftsmanship? Independent. Best performance ? Prestige. Also very good Modern-Aire. Ideally you want a hood that is 6" wider than your cooktop but at least the same width. At least 24" deep upto 27". Ideally SS should be 304. Given that you live no where near the ocean you might be ok with 430 SS. The thicker the steal the better. The lower the gauge the thicker steal. For your fan the rule of thumb is you want 1 cmf of blower power for every 100 btus of cooktop power. Check out threads on these items in the applaince forum and the link below. I like the pattern fine, although it is not one I would choose for my home! I am more traditionalist. What I do not like about those two: fringe, especially light fringe, gets noticeably dirty where it is in the walking path. The same goes for the light colored background. This will be in your main space, and in the walk path from front room to kitchen -- I would look for a version that minimizes the light colored areas. Unless, you have no problem with frequently cleaning it - it needs to be colorfast also. I hope you have a couple of days off now to recoup. I used to do eight 12 hour shifts in a row every month (for child care purposes), and often found that I was more prone to coming down with something afterwards. My unit has been converted into the COVID-19 isolation unit for the hospital.

I'm impressed with the honesty of the caveats. I wish all daylily sellers would be so honest. Muddy lavender is not blue. Faded red is not pink. Not to me anyway.

I assume you're not slinging "mud" at this selection by a ledgandary dl hybridizer. POS is a fantastic parent, not muddy, and has shown more blue than any other dl I've ever had in front of me.

I spotted POS on the Lily Auction a few days ago. I love it. But, way out of my price range. Any one interested there is still 4 days left to bid. It's at $375 right now for a single fan.

I actually don't like it much, but the eye is blue in some of the pics of it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Now people play nice LOL. Ed you are too funny.

Let me start by saying that I love Steve Moldovan's daylilies. I have older and newer and I am on a waiting list for even more. That said, this is not my type of daylily and I would rather have just about any of the daylilies he registered in the last three years over this one.

It is an accomplishment and will likely lead in interesting hybridizing directions.

Finally, Ed I laughed at the POS comment. It reminded me of the Conservative Reform Alliance Party whe had up in Canada a while back. Who wouldn't vote for CRAP?

ed (tx) - what is "impressive by today's standard" in the class of (hardy) daylilies reaching for blue coloration?

ed k - Thieving Magpie and Gentleman's Lady are great. GL has amazing pink color, MUCH better than the website shows.

fsgirl - crack of dawn is killer. another with great pik self color and unique pattern. i highly recommend it - it's my pick of the '07 Moldovan litter.

I could have swore you had a picture of Gentleman's Lady on the northern forum. That picture is what tipped the scale for me. You have to love that southern look on a northern daylily.

Some crosses using 'Piece of Sky' as a pollen parent can be had at the Daylily Auction.

One batch of 4 seeds from a pod parent that was not as desirable as some on the auction block went for $77, just last week.

I've bid on them, put in the maximum I'm willing to pay (which is less than $77!!!) and if I'm outbid, it'll be final, I'll be definitely outbid!
