Home Again and Playing Catch-Up

I have been in Mo the past 5 1/2 weeks helping care for my mother who has been in rehab for a broken hip. I just got home last yesterday afternoon, and it's going to take a lot of time to catch up with all the happenings on the Forum. Looking forward to reading lots of posts. Oh, yes, daylilies are on the way, should start arriving this week. Avedon.

~TJ, the chins are rodents. They are closer to a bunny or guinea pig. They have to be supervised at all times, when out of the cage. My hubby built them a nice big cage with a lot of shelves for them to climb on & they have a wheel for exercise. ~Kym, your first blooms will be so exciting! Can't wait to see your pix. !Kylie, I'm so glad you like the Crossandra. It's such a pretty orange,isn't it? My iochroma you sent is doing well now. I'm convinced, they are touchy when you change their conditions. All the buds and leaves fell off, but now is leafing out at the bottom. The iochroma I air-layered, looked terrible after I potted it up & brought it inside, now it looks great!You can see it in the pic above of my plant bench on the right hand side of the picture. ~Daniella, I did check the website out.I'm confused too. I'm pretty sure it is a Xmas Cactus not a Thanksgiving C. I read conflicting reports that both kinds are one in the same.Have to do a lot more research. ~Lenette, I am in love this year with the Xmas cactus. Such a bright color. Hi All, Thanks for all the kind comments... Seedling 003 keeps changing its eyezone... all of them being very cool! First year to bloom, so I need to keep an eye on it over the next year. Seems like the hot weather made the eyezone more intense. Mike - I don't know how you make it! I was going out every day in MARCH... thinking, it is spring already... bloom dang you! :o) I bet they are building up their strength to put on a real show for you. Jacqueline - That Going Bananas is a monster bloomer. If you can ever get your hands on some, you should. Each clump has 10 scapes up at a time. 17 blooms today on three small clumps. Beautiful form, and the picture does not do the yellow color justice - is it super bright and clear. Stands out from the crowd! Missy - Little Blue Belle is right... sorry. Lrae, I took a chance on Earlene Garber... wasn't exactly sure how it would turn out... I could really only find one picture of it, but mine turned out just like the picture. The pink is kind of irridecent in real life, making the color really beautiful. Thanks Barb... been running around like mad in the mornings! Pictures, pollinating, collecting pollen...whew! Had a really nice weekend away in California - but glad to be back with my DL! :o) Barb... hmmm.... have to think of something! Weaknesses - wine, food (especially baked goods), daylilies! Glad you like seedling 003. Can't wait 'till it multiplies and makes a clump!

Chris, It took it some time to settle in. I moved it early this spring so was surprised the blooms looked half way decent on it!. I'm sure glad you gave up on it and sent it to me cuz I sure love the pretty blooms and there are LOTS of buds on it now. Debra, Thank you! I sure wished my shots looked as good as yours...LOL! Your clump shot of Cret. Crunch has a lot more bite than mine, but I sure love it! It took a good two years settling time for it to show it's bite. Purple Side Effects was added to my garden last fall. I ordered Bass Gibson and Ruckus from Throughbred and Annette sent PSE as bonus! Purple Cheetah was added last fall as well. Jean, I would be happy to send you some banned in Boston once it cools down a little bit, email me through my page. Natanya, Adorable Tiger is even more striking in person, can't explain it, but this beauty is bright! I really LOVE IT! Candy Cane Dreams is another of my favorites. It seems to glow to me! Val, Thank you. Clarification has been a proven winner, the deer never seemed to eat it's buds....LOL Now that I have it within a protected fence, I plan to do some hybridizing with it. Nice group of pics. Coral Majority I find is difficult for me to capture the true color of it. Filled to Overflowing has struggled here for many years. Far From The Madding Crowd looks like one of Curt's other intros "Capacity For Wonder". Neon Flamingo is interesting and I've kept it on a wish list but waiting to see how it looks in different gardens during different climate cycles.

Hi Avedon...you were missed! Sorry about your Mom...I have been there with my Mom. She has suffered 2 broken hips and rehab in the past 4 yrs. It is a long process to get them walking again, although Mom's is complicated by the Alzheimers and blindness. Now she is back to night-wandering and I had to get a bed alarm to let me know when she gets out of bed. No sleep for me!
That's exciting that you're getting new daylilies soon...but you have to tell us what you're getting! I have some big orders coming but not until May so I am getting antsy.
Glad you're back!!

Thanks, everyone, for your concern about my Mom. She uses a wheelchair and will be working with the walker to improve her strength, so that eventually it will be the walker only.

Daylilies arrived yesterday and today. I bought all of them on the Lily Auction. We now have Green Mystique, Malaysian Marketplace, Julianna Lynn, Mystical Rainbow, Twirling Parasol and Susan Weber. Also, we received two bonus plants,Catcher In The Eye and Burning Inheritance. All of the plants are beautiful, much bigger than I expected. I am really pleased. Avedon
