What kind of camera do you have today?

I am using a light camera, my hands can't hold a large one, it is the size of a deck of cards. Konica Minolta that has an anti-shake in it, my hands shake. I want sharp pictures. I can take pictures very close up about 8" from the subject. I can see what I am taking and frame the picture before I snap the picture. I am not good and programing these things. It is plugged in so it doesn't need batteries all the time. Connected to my PC. It wasn't expensive. I think I was told to get one with high pixels? You don't need the most current model, go to a camera shop you tell them what you need and what you are going to use it for. I have been pleased with it, and if I need to ask a question on how to use it I go to the camera shop. I purchased very large cards, so I can use it on a trip and not run out of storage space. Take you time selecting your camera, get lessons from the dealer, ask a lot of questions, it's your money. Check out the prices.

I would look at an entry level dSLR, it will take better photos and give you more flexibility over the best point and shoot. As your skills improve you can inter-change lenses to further advance the camera's capabilities.

I considered Keith's suggestion, but I realized I'm not likely to become the camera zealot that I used to be...and I don't particularly wish to. Anyway, I got a good non-DSLR camera (a Sony DSC-H50) that's quite good for what I want - it also has a very good (Zeiss) lens.

I am using a Kodak easyShare C300 , It has where you can see the pic before you shoot in a window or the eye piece. and its only 3.2 mega pixels. It's my moms actually and I think it's about 5 yrs old.

Point and shoot is good for me.. and prefer the using the large window instead of the eye piece.

besides plants.. I take lots of pics of small craft supplies and crafts... jewlry... I sell on ebay from time to time.

I'm not the kind of person to get into lenses... Need simple.

I've used a Canon Powershot SX100IS and been pleased with it as a good point and shoot. It allows me to take nice ( for P&S ) macros.

In the next few days I will be upgrading to some serious gear, a good body, a nice walk around lens, and a L series professional telephoto lens.

I was gifted last Spring w/ a wonderful Digital called Panasonic DMC LZ-10. It's 10.1 megapixels w/ 5x zoom, a 2.5" window & a Leica lens.

I have't yet masted my closeup stuff, but this takes great pix, seems pretty simple & from what I understand is in the point & shoot area., the 2.5" window to view from, quite helpful.

I'm a quilter (among other things) so my primary interest was a camera to shoot my quilt works, also my plants. I started a blog for my Quilts last Spring & when my Patron Saint saw that, she bought me a camera, so I'd be free to shoot my quilts & post them rather than being dependant on photographers, friends or favors of other folks.

Hi Jojo...I use a Nikon Coolpix S560 10 megapixels. I'm pretty happy with it, Price was pretty good. You picked the right time of the year to buy one. Prices are very competitive this time of year. Good luck finding one!

My camera isn't anything to write home about, and doesn't produce the exceedingly fine images sometimes posted to this Forum...

That said, I use a 6 megapixel Fuji FinePix E550.

Jojo, I been using a Pentax Optio 555 for years. While I have been lusting after some of the nice DSLRs, they simply haven't been in my budget. The Pentax Optio has done quite an admirable job for a point and shoot. I've even taken some very good shots with its macro feature (used for very small subjects and, in my case, a shooting distance of only 1-2 inches from the subject).

Here's something tiny taken with a Pentax Optio S12 12 megapixel point and shoot.

I'm going to stick my 2 cents worth in here. I've had many Canon cameras and have loved them all. My current one is an SX10-IS which has a fantastic "Super Macro" feature that allows 0" focusing distance - yes, you can set something directly on the lens and it focuses beautifully. Amazing feature. Also has a 20x optical zoom and an excellent lens, many options for control or total automatic. I can't recommend this series of cameras enough. Quality is *this close* to a dSLR (we also have a Canon 10D) and it really takes stunning images. There are 2 other models in this range since I bought my camera - the SX1-IS and the SX-20 IS.

Good luck with your choice - there are sooo many options out there!

Guess what, Santa brought me a camera! lol!

Now I never got a chance to share this thread with him, mainly because I was planning to look myself after christmas. I never ask for expensive gifts, so I figured Id just get it myself later.

So needless to say my surprise! LOL!

I hope it will do what I need, he did have an idea of what i need to do with it. i havent even gotten it out of the box yet. Very busy day yesterday! lol...

Congrats Jojo...I'm glad Santa brought you what you wanted, you must have been a good girl,lol. Have fun learning about your camera, I'm a little "technologically challenged" myself, thank goodness my DH is always here to help me. I just got my new camera a few months ago, If I can do it, I have no doubt you will learn it in no time. Looking forward to seeing some pictures with your new camera.

I'm not sure about the good girl thing...LOL!!! I'm thinking it was to shut me up..ROFL!! He hears me grumble about the camera I was using plenty. And when he gets home I show him all the great pics here...lol!

But all in all, I have a great hubby, and i'm not gonna question why I got it. lol!

I'm too tired to read the book today. Were having a jammies day here. ;) No one is motivating to fast. Busy holiday.
