Don't eat the fruit if you have 'fertilized'?

I bought a little satsuma tree at a small nursery. It has one fruit on it, and I look forward to seeing how it tastes. I planted it in the ground 4 weeks ago, and it has not shown any signs of stress. The worker at the nursery--in an ominous, warning tone--told me not to eat any fruit if I have fertilized the tree. What is up with that?! Much of the advice on this forum is about getting plenty of fertilize on citrus trees Could she be talking about some kind of systemic application from the original nursery?
