Don't Know if You Can Really 'Train' Palamedes Cats to Eat Sassafras..

but, so far, so good. They're eating both red bay and sassafras, mostly the later. The palamedes caterpillar on the right is eating sassafras, the one on the left, red bay -

I'd like to know that they can thrive on sassafras, since we now only (mostly) have root sprouts of red bay. I say mostly, because there's a red bay tree on my property that's gone untouched. I don't know if the ambrosia beetles missed it, or if it's immune. I'd love to know that there are a few trees out there that are immune!

The cat on the left has now turned green, also.

I'm finding spicebush caterpillars all over the place, am now raising about a dozen cats, some about to turn green. Unfortunately, these two palamedes cats are the only ones I've found. Fortunately, I saw what looked like a newly emerged palamedes swallowtail in the garden the other day - 'couldn't get close enough to see if it was a male or female.
