"The key to growing aloes ..... Always position

aloes in full sun, but away from harsh reflective

surfaces that might burn the leaves in situations

where a combination of afternoon sun, heat and

poor air circulation exist." (from a UC Davis publication)

My plan is to plant some more aloes in my extended cactus garden next Spring. It is a southern exposure, although there is some shade from tall trees during certain parts of the day. There is a tall wall of redwood siding to consider which will reflect heat. My planting area extends 5 or 6 feet out from the wall. How close is too close? I will be choosing from among some larger specimans I have bought recently. Some are single rosette with trunk types.

There is a San Pedro cactus stand planted close to the wall in the already established section of this cactus garden. They don't seem to mind the close to the wall planting.

What do you think for the aloes? 3 feet from the wall? More? Less?
