To me the interesting thing about Three Tree Point is the native Garry oaks and how they are only out on the harshest part that "points" into the water, replaced immediately by solid madrona forest as soon as you get back a little farther from the edge. Looking from the south this is quite apparent, a big arc of madrona sweeping back from the oaks in the tip. To find redwoods and other trees to photograph in Seattle pick up Trees of Seattle - Second Edition by Arthur Lee Jacobson. On page 363 there are 13 locations given for big Sierra redwoods, with dimensions. It says one planted in Leschi Park during 1892 was 126' x 22'2 1/2" (when last measured, perhaps a few years ago now). It also says one on Madrona Drive was 155' tall, and a couple in Acacia Cemetery 27' around. So the one in Leschi is not the tallest or the biggest around, but is certainly big overall. If you get a copy of Champion Trees of Washington State by Robert Van Pelt (out of print but still available from the author as well as in libraries etc.) you can find locations for big redwoods* and other trees outside of Seattle. Tree guidebooks have also been published in the comparatively recent past for Vancouver and Portland. *Audrey and Paul Grescoe spotted what became the state champion Sierra redwood in Ridgefield, WA, and contacted Bob about a week after I noticed the same tree, pulled over to look at it from out on the street, decided it was too small and drove off! In 1995 it measured 125' x 32'6" x 65'. Another listed by Van Pelt and growing in the Wind River Arboretum, is notable on the state level for having been 157' tall during 1993.

Most of these varieties come from my local Cactus & Succulent Society meetings, once a month. Three of those pictured, I did NOT get there. (S. trifaciata 'Larentii', S.t. birdnest, and S. trifaciata plain.) That tells you alot about where these are available. And the Best part of local meetings and membership selling to you; you do not pay 'fair market value' based on what suppliers think their time is worth, but rather on a person who wishes his effort & time end product go to a good home where it will be appreciated!!! Luvs, as you know, my Too Long to Do List has taken on gigantic proportions and become the blob like in those horror movies, who swallow people and towns. LOL. I want to make so many things, tho heaven knows where I'd put here any of it. LOL. But I just can't stop myself from finding and saving neat photos and ideas. I'd probably actually get more made if I stayed the heck off here! Kathleen, I also am so NOT ready for Christmas. I LOVE Fall and want it to last. Just seems when I can't sleep and go looking for decor pix, not that much comes up for Fall, or I already have them in our album. Darn. That's sad some of your friends stopped decorating, tho I did that a couple times years ago. Right after Jason was burned and my Mom died. 2001 and 2002 were emotionally draining, and I just had no heart for it at the time. Seemed like no one came over, my DH doesn't care one way or the other, and it was a lot to work just to entertain the cats. LOL. But now my mind set is much better, and I'd do it no matter what I think, simply because it makes ME feel good and happy to see. Again, I owe a lot of that decorating mind-set to THIS Forum. Its fun to decorate now for ALL the holidays, instead of just Christmas. I keep remembering this came about ALL because of stumbling across Judith's stacked plates!!! Funny how 3 little cake plates could change one's life so much! Everyone here really has added a lot to my life, and opened up my little world. Being housebound quite often with the Fibromyalgia, it means more than you know to have all of you. I never dreamed I could have so much fun with my Invisible Friends (at least not since I was about about 5). LOL hugs, Karen
