My kids built a Vampire Snowman in honor of our confused season...Happy Halloween and Jingle Bells!

(if you look closely, you can see my A. plicatilis and polyphylla and my Yucca rostrata to the left of my garage, which makes this post totally ON-topic!)

I hope you All had a peaceful and happy Halloween. Glenn, I am glad that your girls got to enjoy the Halloween time with your wife. About your vegetable garden , it is good that you are harvesting some crops, I harvested my sweet potatoes already. When you are too busy, sometimes is a good idea to let the garden rest for a while. There will be the time , when you can plant again.... Thank you Writersblock, I am glad that you enjoyed the video, the owner of the house takes a lot of his time, patience and material to make it possible for all of us to enjoy. We told him that we were making the video. The only spell that I made yesterday was for my food to be healthy! lol. And it was tasty and healthy, that red lentil pasta , I will be buying again, taste better when hot and fresh. I saw another pasta made from chickpeas, I will be trying that one too.

We moved into our home during a year when Halloween fell on a Friday, and we had many kids. We like to give out king sized bars so I always buy too much as our numbers fall tremendously during the week. I'll be curious to see if Halloween 2020 will have big crowds again! We are doing a home remodel so I set up in our driveway. We only had about 25 kids so I let them take 2. Usually I only let them have 1. Honestly I'll probably go back to that policy because a few sly ones took 3 or 4 thinking I wouldn't notice! I don't want to encourage greed. I have quite a bit leftover. I might donate it but I've never done that before. A local dentist is buying it back for $1 a pound and sending to troops.

The half hour drive down to our daughter's house took an hour. Flooding, crazy wind and having to move a tree that fell down across the road in front of us. Luckily the tree was dead and broke in pieces. My hubby and 4 guys from other cars cleared the road and we went on our merry way. Only to get home and a tree is down across our road. Drove on the hillside to get around it. We will let the neighbors take care of that one in the morning.

All is commercial hype now days. Bleh! Myself and my kids, who were born in the 70s, made up our own costume. Like so many other things that we consume. these new character things are just consumable junk that ends up in the landiflll. And, unlike that old pair of pants that you may have used in your costume in 1970, these things are forever materials in the landfill. I enjoyed the photo from the past. So many things were not such an artificial hype as they are today. Of course, today, you would be less likely to go as a gypsy or a hobo due to political correctness. There is going to be someone who finds offense with so many of these characters. I guess it is still OK to be a princess or a pirate or a ghost, though.

Happy Halloween, Laura, Penny, and Tom!

This is the only pumpkin-colored bloom I have in the yard, but I thought it would do!
Gotta love these Mexican Sunflowers...! The moths certainly do ;-)

What a darling cactus. :)

Those are Skipper butterflies. I'd have to look up more specifics, but the outer view of the wings there reminds me of the Fiery Skipper. They're the sweetest little things.

Hey Laura:

No Halloween in my town, with all the snow we had, they postponed it until next week! Some towns around here cancelled it outright. I feel bad for the kids. This has never happened before in my lifetime.

Cancelled in my town, too. Rescheduled it to Friday when our family is traveling so my kids would have missed it entirely.

We lobbied the rest of the neighborhood to have it anyway. Small neighborhood, cul de sac..parents chaperoning...no downed wires...why not?

I get the hazards and the safety issues, but sometimes I think they go a little overboard when they decide that we don't have the ability to parent responsibly.

Way to go!!

It's hard to cancel something when it's really the 31st!!

I feel bad for all of the kids who were looking forward to this night, hopefully they will have a better time next week.

I have never heard of them cancelling the night either. So sad for the kids...

It has to be so hard on you parents too!

I hope you all get your power back up in the northeast soon.

Im so glad that i wasnt traveling up in the northeast...UGGG heard of planes stuck on the tarmac for 9 hrs. I dont know if i could handle that!!! Whew...

We are all thinking of you and hoping that your lives get back to normal real soon!
