Help! Several issues with grapefruit tree
Comments (2)Yup, agree with Johnmerr. Also check to make sure the soil is getting / staying hydrated adequately - especially when its 95+. Some of those pix look like my Flame & Melogold's when they went without water for too long in a hot spell. Otherwise, i do not see much to worry about. Drip or soaker hose over a long duration should get the water to the roots.... and remember to water at the dripline - not at the trunk.Good luck! Comments (7)From what I can see in the photo, there seems to be ants and some smaller insect also. If there are ants on your plants (haha see what I did there..), there are probably ants residing in your soil (in the pot). Ants themselves don't really present a problem themselves, but the pests they bring certainly do. If you want to get rid of the ants, cinnamon does the trick. If they are really residing in your soil, you should be able to sprinkle some cinnamon on the surface of the soil, and around the tree's base, and that should do it. Someone please correct me if I am wrong on this! If you want to outright kill the ants, just sprinkle some diatomaceous earth (google it) on the surface of the soil! (diatomaceous earth is natural but it will badly dehydrate your skin if you do not wash it off) Here is a link! http://pest.tips.net/T003479_Keep_Ants_at_Bay_without_Using_Harmful_Insecticides.html Have a good day! ~palmsandsnow...See MoreGrapefruit tree dying from the inside
Comments (21)Here are some close ups of that first picture and a leaf from one of those bottom sprouts. I am convinced it is a grapefruit tree leaf. It looks, feels, and smells the same! Also sorry for any confusion, the picture in my original post was found on the internet. Made this post at work and didn't have any pictures of my tree. I have only had the tree since October so I don't know if it flowers or not. When does that normally happen, closer to summer?...See MoreWhat is this infection on my grapefruit tree?
Comments (13)I cleaned the soot off, came off easily with soapy water. I found these spots on nearby and affected leaves. They almost look like burn marks. I assume that is where the offending bugs latched on. Would these be signs of scale, or would other potential offending bugs (white fly, aphids) also leave such marks? I don’t see any signs of life anymore, just curious what pest inhabited my tree, if it’s possible to know such things. I also found a couple of these spots on a few leaves. Look like the leaves had bleach spilled on them. Would this be a nutritional deficit, or just “character”? Thanks in advance to anyone who is still reading this post and sharing their experience with this overeager novice....See Moreslice4444
