My Piilu is blooming double again

In the spring my Pillu was about to bloom and for some reason the whole vine died at once (almost like it was broken, but I couldn't find a break in it). Two new vines shot up from the ground and grew so quickly it amazed me.

They bloomed very well, but single flowers. I thought "well that's right because it is new wood and next year they will double".

We had terrible drought conditions from May until the first of August - no rain at all. Then in August it started to rain and we got quite a bit. The lawns greened back up and everything went crazy almost like it was spring again. Now Pillu is blooming again on that vine that just shot up this spring and it is giving me double blooms.

Is that vine now considered "old wood" because it bloomed already this season, or is the double blooming more because of how much moisture the plant got?"
