We don't have as much snow here in the desert as you have, Mr. Morton. I agree that snow can be beautiful, but I much prefer to experience it from the comfort of my house. Thank goodness for people like you, who are willing to brave the elements to make conditions safter for everybody who has to be out on the roads! This is what my yucca rock garden looks like early this morning. The sun is shining above the new storm which is moving in over the mountains. We're expecting another inch or so here--nowhere near as much as you are dealing with.

Wow Mr. Morton, you have your plate full with wonderful occasions this month. I think your grandfather celebrating his 65th wedding anniversary is the most touching sentiment, he most have adored his wife.

We've had rain, rain, rain. It let up for a few days so now we have icy freezing nights. There goes my brugmansia... again. Poor thing has been wacked two years in a row.

I have 23 Sphinx moth cocoons in a big dirt container. They are beginning to move above the dirt because of the few sunny days. I so hope they don't emerge yet otherwise they'll die.

Oh, I forgot to mention...Edna's post reminded me... I think your grandfather is one brilliant and sentimental man to gather his family round him on what would have been the 65th anniversary of he and his wife. What better way to remember and honor his dear departed wife, than to have their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with him to commerate their wedding!?! Congratulations on your own wedding anniversary!

A white, a red, and a yellow rose tied together with a pretty ribbon to surprise your wife on Valentine's Day, might be fun. The significance of those rose colors being purity, passion, and friendship, respectively.

MrM: Wow, you are definitely getting all of the snow that has escaped us! We seem to keep going through some warm-up spells: snows, then melts, rains, then turns to ice, snows on top of that, melts, etc.

Lorna: Your yucca photo is beautiful! My mother had yuccas in her gardens for years and I never remember the snow collecting on them like that.

I've been watching as the last few storms passed well to the south of us. Now I know who's been getting slammed. Sorry you had to get all of that, but I'm glad we didn't. I'm sure we'll get ours, though, there's a lot of winter left to go up here.

It sounds like a busy month for you, Mark. At least all those activities should make February go by pretty darn fast - not a bad thing in my book.

We had a very warm, humid day, up to around 80. I think we had a couple of days of winter weather, and maybe a couple of days of spring, and now it looks like we are heading into an early summer. Dang. We need rain too.

Thanks for the compliments on the yucca photo. Yuccas are a native plant here. They put out flower spikes in spring, which are 3-4 feet tall. The flowers are fragrant, the leaves are like swords. Edna, I'm in central New Mexico, on a mesa at the northern end of the Chihuahuan Desert. There aren't any native trees here!

We have squeaked by again where we live the high winds have missed us once again, touch wood. AGAIN the wind has been just terrible for parts of the island, trees are down, ferries cancelled, many without power.

Lorna that is one awesome picture, somehow in my mind snow and yuccas don't seem to go together.

TM, it looks like you've been ducking the weather like we have, here's hoping our luck holds :o).

Flower 80 degrees, that's getting a little to hot for me, when the temp hits 80 around here I'm hiding indoors, but I have to admit I'm kind of envious of all the neat plants you can grow that I can't sigh...

Snowplow people are definitely on my superhero list. The snow has been so deep and heavy here at times that there is NO WAY I could shovel my driveway unless I had a week to complete the task. So hooray for all you snowplowers out there!!!

Right now we're having another thaw and the problem is fog at night. I just drove 30 miles through pea soup. Dense fog is right up there with black ice for not being fun! You just hope that you don't run into someone/something and that no one rear-ends you either! Thank goodness I'm familiar with the route on our twisty New England "cow path" roads!

Yes, my grandfather is a wonderful man who adored is wife endlessly, and continues to do so. I have more respect and admiration for him than anyone else I know. I remember when requested to write about "your hero" in grade school, my grandfather was my choice(and probably still would be).
It seems the snow has been pushed back a bit, but is still on its way. Yay!( Can you SEE the sarcasm? LOL)
Yes, February always goes by quickly due to all the activities going on. March is a little better, but not much, especially the first half.
That pic is pretty cool Lorna. The snow that sticks to the plants is the prettiest. I have several pictures like that from last year, but none from this year yet. You have to get a picture before it melts off, and I've been short on opportunity.
By the way, I meant for this thread to be the February journal, not necessarily another "lets talk about the weather" thread. Oh well.

Congratulations Mr M on your 9th. We are having our 37th on Friday....started celebrating on Sunday !! I think your grandfather sounds sentimental and very loving. A great way to spend the day rather than mourning alone.

With all you have going on it is a great month for you , I am glad we don't get that snow. I was born in Central Ohio, near Findlay and I remember walking to school in drifts that were.....you know....head high ! I was in 1st grade so not too bad.

... except here in Portugal... It's like an early Spring here at the moment. We were in the Algarve for a long weekend this week and the almond trees are in full bloom. Even though it's normal for the almond trees to bloom around this time of the year, it's not normal that temperatures are so warm in February - Lisbon expects 20C (68F) high today. I'm sure we'll get the downsize of all this beautiful weather later on...

MrMorton, congratulations on all the happy occasions you are celebrating this month. And BTW, I believe plowmen have become sex symbols after the TV series "Men in Trees" :-) Anyone watch that series? My favorite at the moment.
