Sounds like you've solved your own problem : ) The only ones that I have a lot of problems with are very green cuttings in water. I have better results with them in soil but still not great. How long is the cutting that you rooted horizontially? I've done it before with cuttings that were 6" and under and they do grow but I have problems when I try to cut the "log" into individual plants. I guess I could leave it be but then there would be so much growth in a single container. I wonder why you are ending up with so many mushy cuttings? Maybe it would help if you added a few drops of B1 or Superthrive to your rooting containers? Although you seem to be doing well with just potting them up. I wish I had the room to pot all my cuttings because the growth that I get in soil is much nicer then the foliage that grows in water. I usually end up cutting everything back when I pot them.

The exotics are the only ones giving me headaches.

And not all of them either. I've got an HG Double Orange in there with roots (too many - I'm gonna have to pot it!)

Another double orange HG CUTTING with roots, an angels moonlight (another exotic german one) with roots and new leaves. . .along with all the other misc cuttings. Grimaldis, Seuss, pinks, Xenas, whites, etc.

I have stuff actively growing in mine - new leaves, sprouts and all. . .couple of crabbies Super Nova, etc.

But on the whole, I'm not "losing" more - it's only a few.

I wonder. . .do you have a "ph" testing kit at home? Something that would have a chlorine pad also? For spas and pools?

Hi Karyn: Yeah, tried with Vit B1, tried with ST, tried with Aspirin water, tried with Hydrogen Peroxide ... think I've tried all the remedies I've found on past and present threads, here. That is why I am so bummed about losing so many cuttings.. Must admit the ones I'm losing are small and thin. So maybe I've just been buying bad brugs. But the attraction is we want the new ones and the doubles. Right now, all are doing well, so I'm letting nature take its course.

Dweeb: That's one of the first things I thought about when I began having so many failures. But even with Distilled Water nothing about the cuttings mushing slowed down or changed!!!
Will keep you posted on how I do with potting them or horizontal rooting method. Gloria

I am thinking that my water is to cold, just room temp about 60 in here, so I upped the temps.

I've always had slightly better results with room temp water. I decided to try a heater and didn't have any cuttings root faster and seemed to have slightly more cuttings go soft. That could also have been the quality of the cuttings to begin with, I'm not sure. I'm also not sure what the temp my unheated water is but I believe it's fairly cool. The buckets are on a wood floor next to a sliding glass door all winter.

I know this doesn't pertain to the bucket of brugs but I had some small cuttings in clear juice glasses of water on the windowsill getting some morning light and some on the counter. The ones on the window sill had roots before the ones on the counter even had nubbies yet the ones I got that sat at the post office for a few days in the dark wrapped in wet paper rooted in there so who knows.

Hi F4F: That's exactly what I'm experiencing... (PO in dark = roots) with the non-water rooting Brugs. Esp. watching the horizontal ones that are growing like crazy. This is such a thrill for me, because of the many cuttings this year that didn't even make nubbies in the Bubbler!;0) Granted these cuttings were WONDERFUL ... Thanks, again Barry... but any victory for me right now is welcomed!! I'm even thinking what a great living fence/border horizontal rooting can make, just by lining cuttings in a row and letting them sprout!
