New Meyer Tree - should I repot now?

Hi,
I am new to Citrus Trees and have looked at all the great information on this forum. I bought a 3-yr Four Winds Meyer Lemon Tree a month ago and since it came in just shaving - I potted it in a 12" pot with a mix of perlite, the shavings that came with the plant and Master Nursery Gardener's Gold, it is sitting outdoors

I just bought a Monrovia Improved Meyer at a local nursery - it has 4 lemons on it and I see new growth on some of the branches. I have attached a photo.

A few questions:
Should I repot it now in a better dirt mix or wait?
How do know where the graft line is?
How often do I fertilize?

I read recently 4-6 weeks for fertilizing. I am new to this world as well. So far from my reading, don't change anything if it's doing well & producing fruit/buds.flowers. But I am still new to citrus. I have a meyer lemon too.

Most Nursery soils I've had plants shipped in have been way too heavy, so it depends on the soil it's been shipped with.

Indeed I was thinking slugs, as my amigo Jeff has stated...Prevalent mostly at night and early morning when conditions are warm and humid or wet... Succulents with their thick leaves and abundant moisture are ideal fodder for slugs and snails. Christopher

suburbanrancher, it's advised that the best time to repot (since, as you say Meyers seem to always be in some state of flowering) is during a dormant period just following fruit set and just before the next flush of leaves. This usually corresponds to early summer (around June or thereabouts). jkom, what an interesting question you ask about in-ground vs pot ripening times for IMLs. I actually have 3 Meyers in the ground and one that's potted, and I had every intention of (taking it a step further and) making this a full-time houseplant. After all, I'm able to successfully flower both a Cattleya orchid and a plumeria (no longer alive) at an East/Southwest facing window so I'd hoped to successfully fruit the Meyer at this location. But I've chickened out (and my potted Meyer is now an all-outdoor plant), as nobody's seemed to have done 100% indoor cultivation of a Meyer and gotten it to fruit - if anyone has evidence otherwise, I'd love to know! Maybe I should just do the experiment to determine the answer for myself...and also answer your fruit-timing question. Tim

"Oh and one more thing!! Did you make sure you filled in the soil around ALL the roots? I usually use a small stick or pencil, and wiggle it between the roots as I watch the soil fall even deeper into the pot. Then I pressure water into the pot into the roots as even more of this loose, bigger particle mix fills in the spaces between the roots..Make sure, ok..You do not want some roots dying of thirst while others are watered.." The above is Meyermikes recent advice to me about transplanting my new meyer lemon. I also know from reading through other threads that it is also very important to remove all the old potting mix from the roots. I removed what I could with my hands and then sprayed off the rest in my kitchen sink. Regarding cutting the roots, I didn't do it and my plant is perfectly happy in its new home. Someone else would have to advise you about that. Good luck with your new plant.

I'll trade ya mike. It hit 119 in my back yard today, my irrigation is on restriction, I can only water a couple days a week right now due to the drought and my trees are not looking well at all. It is going to be a long, wretched, hot summer in southern Cali. Oh and my lawn and everyone else's lawn in my neighborhood is brown from lack of water. Yuck. Evan

It's pretty heavy, my Four Winds tree pot is very light.

That plant will be fine in that mix until about fall..

So make it easier on yourself to repot at the peek of growth so you will have no issues come this winter..

It's beautiful..Everything from Monrova is beautiful and of great quality..

So I left this Monrovia tree outside until it was hitting a few days of 40s in NJ. I brought both the Four Winds and Monrovia to my bedroom (near a skylight). The Four Winds has adjusted and the Monrovia has dropped most of it's leaves and it has a ton of flowers. Which I read might be due to stress. I didn't get a chance to re-pot it due to other priorioties. Is it too late to repot it?

Also should I add a grow light to give it more light? The past few weeks we have seen very little sun.
