Soil is actually a very good insulator. The potted plants should be wrapped in several layers, paper, foil, cloth...with an air space between each and a heat pack can be used. I've shipped and received plenty of rooted brugs over the dead of winter and the vast mnajority did well but is it worth going through all the trouble? Your zone is quite a bit colder then mine.

Our highs here this week are in the thirties. I was wondering if it would work or not. There are a few beutys on ebay I would love to buy. I am waiting for the seller to email me. I am gonna plant up some cuttings from brenda and dweeb today. I am afraid they will rot if I keep them in water. I havenet seen any growth yet on aprils wrethched mess yet. I keep hoping everyday to see growth. I just love the pink ferfection spelling. I would like to buy it and the german hybrid pink. Oh they are so pretty. Well gotta go and have a great day. If you see some great deals on Ebay you might want to give it a shot but for any of the more expensive plants I'd wait. I'd also only buy well rooted plants this time of year, not cuttings.

We allow hunters on the farm to shoot deer, bow and gun. There's just so many and there's not enough food for all of them. Thye mice ar just a nusience here. We have seed storage lockers at the farm and have problems keeping them out. It's difficult for us to carry seed over so we normally buy fresh each season. Actually we mainly finish off plugs in the gh so that's not a problem. I have too many seed varieties to list and it changes so often. I tried 2 years ago and stopped at about 400. I'm just not that organized. lol

Thanks for the info. Yes the mice can be terrible. I guess being so cold out they have to go somewhere might as well be a warm gh. I went out to the gh and my hibiscus sugar maple bloomed for the 1st time. Totally excited. The geramiums are blooming too. Karyn I have a variegated abuliton would you happen to know why the flowers are not opening all the way. Is it due to shortened days? Here are some pics. Oh I forgot to say my aztec gold plumie bit the dust. Rotten as a skunk. I tried cutting it down to see if it will root. Small as heck though. Boo hoo wasnt meant to be I think. The plumies are a pain....Barb

I have the same abutilon and the bloom doesn't blow all the way open. That's just what it's supposed to look like. Mine is still outside and I have to figure out a way to get it in. It's about 5' tall and as wide. I'm shocked that it's still alive because the temps are in the 20's here. The colors of your geraniums are beautiful.

Oh Mike I would love one. Do you have a victoria princess plumie. I have some about 8 inches rooted and happy. I would love to trade come spring. I will put your name on one. Karen we were typing at the same time. LOL Thank you for the nice comments. I grew some of them from seed others I bought. I am so happy to hear they open only so far. That speciman sure gets huge. I am trying to root some in water to share this spring and am failing at it. Darn! They just rot in water. The pros say they are easy to do. My foot they are. I will keep trying till I get it right. Wow 20's and surviving that is a tough abuliton must of been all the food you gave it this summer. LOL Barb

the abutilon is pretty. I have a plain orange one that I tried to root in water. The roots would start then the stem would rot. I finally rooted one in soil. I just stuck it in a pot and forgot about it. I kept it on the side of my house under the water hose so when ever I watered it got dribbled on. I know that isnt much help in the dead of winter but that is what I did.

yes it did. In fact I went out of town for a few days and mine nearly died, but it came back like a trooper!!! it is in my unheated garage right now and I think it has a few blooms, it is too cold out there for me!!! This is the same treatment it got last winter.

Everything in your GH is just Beautiful!!!!!

Abutilons root super easy in soil. I just take cuttings, strip the bottom foliage and stick them in moist potting mix. No rooting powder. I slip the whole pot into a baggie and keep it in the shade. They usually have a good root system in a few weeks.

Nice photos Barb. Your pelargoniums are blooming so nicely. I've never grown the abuliton. I like the variegated foliage and your hibiscus looks beautiful. It's wonderful that your plants are loving your greenhouse.

Since I'm keeping my gh so cold my plants are living but not putting on any active growth right now.
