Do I need to cement in a lattice trellis?

I just came in from digging a deep hole for a free standing lattice trellis. The legs are about 20" long and am wondering if I could just dig deep enough for the legs, cover with the soil and brace the trellis or would I have to pour concrete in the hole? The braces would come up and over the bottom and I have used these on wire trellis with no problem. The lattice is about 36" wide and a yard and 17 " long which does not include the measurement for the legs that would be in the ground. I am planting a Venosa Violetta .

I would prefer not to have to cement it but I do need expert advise.
