A few Picea abies cultivars... that I covet.

Dave

Picea abies 'Little Gem'. About 10 years old. Small dwarf and grown in most collector gardens.

Picea abies 'Perry's Golden'. I'll show a Spring time photo. Much more interesting. A dwarf upright conical. Foliage turns back to dark green if grown in wooded area. About 4 inches a year.

Picea abies 'Hillside Upright'. Not so sure if cultivar name is correct. Not like any other 'Hillside Upright I have seen. Short and squat grows 1-2 inches a year.

{{gwi:625993}}

Picea abies 'Compressiania'. Good columnar Norway. About a 12 inches a year. If you want a good narrow columnar for tight areas this is the one.

{{gwi:625995}}

Picea abies 'Nidiformis'. Bird's Nest Norway spruce. A small to medium-sized shrub with a broad rounded and flat-topped habit. Good filler plant.

{{gwi:625997}}

Formanek'. A weeping spreading variety. Light green on 4 inch stems that seen to grow away from each other at an angle. Dwarf.

Picea abies 'Reflexa'. Sold in most nurserys as 'Pendula' I have 2. This one staked to grow straight with house confinds so close. The other is free range and can't make up its mind where to grow next. Most of you have seen it on this forum many times. Very hardy and versatile.

Picea abies 'St. James'. Good choice for smaller garden. Dense cushion has a convex top and grows 1-2" a year.

{{gwi:626003}}

Picea abies 'Barryi'. The growth is relatively slow, about 4-6" (10-15 cm) per year. Short, stiff, shiny needles with a dark green coloration lend it dignity. In time it will change its form from a globe to an upright, broad spire. It should be fine in its present location for 5 years or more.

Picea abies 'Clanbrassiliana'. Very dense, slow growing,with dark green foliage and tiny needles It becomes broadly conical as it ages.

{{gwi:626008}}

Picea abies 'Pumilla'. Dark green needles and wide-spreading dense growth. Tends to form a mound or central cone with age.

{{gwi:626009}}

Picea abies 'Weeping Blue'. Upright weeper, rapid growing, needles have a bluish cast.

{{gwi:626010}}

Picea abies 'Kellerman's Blue'. Flat round bun with blue needles. About 2 1/2 " a year.

{{gwi:626011}}

Picea abies 'Mariana Nana'. Very dwarf, low, broad, cushion-shaped, bluish green needles. Matures at about 20 inches in that many years. I see it offered both ways as a miniature or dwarf.
