Rudbeckias-Do I cut them back now?
Comments (2)what a handsome photo and planting. when they look gone by/ugly, just whack them. no, when you whack them, they won't rebloom; it's too late in the season for them to rebloom anyway.whack them by 1/3- 1/2. rudbeckia are such tough plants. the whacking will cause them to flush new growth, so i'd guess they'd only be ugly for a month before they flush out again. then you have frost and everybody bye bye for this year....See MoreCut back fans now?
Comments (10)Why still would you cut them down in spring if they look healthy? I do not understand what you are accomplishing by cutting them down? Why I ask is I am new to irises. I see people cut them down in the fall all the time. I have some regular traditional irises that I do nothing to and look great every year that I have had for awhile. I purchased last fall 8 reblooming ones. 6 of them bloomed in the spring and only one bloomed this fall so far....See MoreFreeze Tip Damage-Do I Cut Back Now?
Comments (10)Hi: I live in Northridge (San Fernando Valley) and many of my gorgeous plumerias froze this winter. What a pity! I have one frozen so bad I see no growth on it, though I left it alone hopinggggggggggg...it's just a tough stick, now! But I'm hoping maybe it will grow from the root. All the others i trimmed and wished I hadn't as this summer they have all grown back--not as large as they were a year ago, but at least I still have them. I ordered several which were "supposed to be red" which have come up white. All the plumeria which froze this winter grew leaves but not the flower. I'm hoping tomorrow they will grow flowers. I have many I would like to trade with other plumeria growers in the area. Anyone out there interested in swapping cuttings? Comments (5)If the soil is moist - they should be ok. Some of mine look this terrible and they still throw roots and are just fine in the spring. I would not let them freeze - not sure of your zone and keep them out of direct sun. I have successfully rooting cuttings for years and it takes patients. Watch for little leaf buds and then you will know all is ok? Sometimes I cut the leaves and sometimes I don't and it does not seem to matter. If you can use a heat mat when it get cold that will speed up the rooting process. Best advice - keep moist and be patient!...See Moremerrygardens
