Thanks for the info farmerdill. I will be cutting it open tonight and will let you all know how it looks/feels inside and how it tastes. BTW- Itilton you said it is too late for summer squash; I plant mine in mid to late may by seed, and am still getting new zuchini. OK guys, just fired up the laptop and saw several posts on my thread so thought I'd better stop by again. Firstly...I may be a 6footer but I'm definitely female, lol!! My full name is Gillian, shortened to Gill and pronounced the same as Jillian/Jill. I find this hilarious as it's happened to me on Gweb before!! Anyway, gender problem sorted, its back to my plants! The pink flowered one is indeed a Gerbera daisy, the two with the marbled leaves are miniature Cyclamen persicum as has also been correctly ID'd. Some super pics of jades have been added, they look great. Only rarely see Hobbit, Gollums, Hummels etc over here. Yes Toni, my large Crassula ovatas go a lovely shade of red late in the year. Below is a pic of the jade above, before it got chopped...and as you can see, it was a lot 'branchier' then! I had kept it indoors for some time so it was etiolated and not very good looking apart from the colour of the trunk. Soon after this pic I gave them both the chop. (obviously not drastically enough, but I did thin them out a lot or so I thought!) Have pics of the other big guy on our main PC which will soon be up and running according to my HUSBAND!! I tried googling to find out what varieties of clems do this & to what extent. I couldn't find hardly any info & the 1 link I did find was about propagating. It says: "There are a number of plants which have this habit, some that I have successfully divided to produce a few extra plants are; heracleifolia, cirhossa Balearica, the viorna section, integreifolia, ladakhiana, marmoraria, marata and some of the New Zealand hybrids, such as Little Runner." I'm with you, I can't have that going on in my yard either. I emailed someone on the China Purple that I know has experience with it & holding off on mine until I hear back. I can tell you how I handled a Wisteria issue that was like that if it would help? I'm not sure if they grow the same, but I did have a bunch of roots coming off the mother plant & sending up new plants 15' away, so it is similiar. If the roots are that thick, you will need a pruning saw (I did, the wisteria had been in the ground for at least 10 yrs). I removed as much dirt around the initial rootball as possible to find all the roots that had grown a million miles from it & started sawing & pruning them off until I could get the initial rootball out of the ground. I then sprayed round up on the freshly cut wounds of the stems still in the ground & left the dirt off of them for a good week for the sun to bake on them. It worked. I know round up isn't suppose to work like that, only on foliage, coincidence? I wasn't going to take the chance on putting nothing on them, I was literally having bad dreams about this plant not ever going away. You might want to sub for something a little more potent, but you may not be able to plant anything in that spot for a year. If it simply the case that they were living off the mother plant then severing them might have done the trick. Good luck!

These are both varieties that bloom best if pruned to near the ground (leave a few buds per stem) yearly. Plus, an annual prune lets you avoid the mess of dead stems in the winter. They will grow up to the same size each year after pruning. My mom had a Jackmanii in Cleveland which I pruned for her each year if I visited when it was dormant. It grew to the top of her 6' trellis and then spilled down or grew over to the railing each year from the 1 1/2 feet I pruned it to each year. I am a bit unclear when you say you have lots of trellis to cover. If those 2 clematis were covering it previously, they most probably will this year. Or are you planning to move one of them so that they are more balanced? One of the larger sized clematis is Betty Corning with light purple small bells. She might well be able to keep up with sweet autumn, though probably won't be quite as large. Many of the type 3 clematis other than those two will work with Jackmanii.
