Ahh... This is so beautiful and creative. I'll be posting some nice pictures of eye candie just for you all to enjoy today and maybe you'll even be inspired as I was. It was a beautiful day so the wife & I came out to the beach and stopped at "Rogers garden"

Wellrounded, Early on you asked about Noisettes. FWIW my experiences in a zone6-7 growing environment is that the simpler noisettes (as opposed to the tea noisettes) are stronger through winter than HTs. I grow Chinas and Rosa moschata. The chinas have little winter damage; R. moschata likes the warmer area (up by the house) and tolerates with slow growth the bottom of the hill which I've measured as five to seven degrees colder in difficult winters. The smaller blooming single and semidouble and double noisettes put on good size in my gardens. They keep their older canes through winter although they will loose canes put out in late fall. In a warmer area downstream, down the river in Knoxville, with some kind of heat island from the city plus many, many cars going by each day, a tea noisette (Duch. de Auerstadt) had great growth and bloom. Mine from the same source struggles. If you grow Chinas easily, it's worth trying the simpler noisettes as well as R. moschata (for its fragrance and elegance). If you're in an area with great heat (for your zone) and most of your HT canes make it through almostall winters, try a tea noisette or two. Much luck, they are worth the effort.

I was actually kind of surprised how many varieties outside of knockouts our Lowe's carried, but it's more of the same....knockouts everywhere. 20 years from now, the only rose that will exist on Earth will be KO roses at this rate. It's definitely a worrysome long term outlook. I noticed this the other day with my Mother. She just wanted to get KOs for her storefront. I asked her to try other varieties and explained what would work and even showed her some pictures, but she went to a local bargain store and picked up a "Lady Diana" hybrid tea anyways.....not sure if that was any better or worse than a knockout...pretty bloom for sure, but in terms of rebloom, diease, and overall health, I'm not quite sure. At any rate, I'm hoping she changes her outlook once she sees the 20 or so Austins I planted in her yard last year...almost all of which overwintered perfectly fine. Most people don't even know what an Austin, Antique, or hell.....EVEN a HT rose is. They just know roses and the most common mainstream rose is the KO, so that's all they know. Need to be creative and expand horizons.

visiting california -need info on plumeria nurseries

a couple more ideas... check the local Craigslist for plumeria on sale by small nurseries and local growers. There's a few here in north SD county, and others in OC. Unfortunately you'll miss the Socal PS meeting on the 8th, and it doesn't look like the South Coast PS has a meeting in May. Jungle Jack has amazing plants and will have an open house in May, but the date isn't announced yet so keep an eye on his website. Be prepared for sticker shock, but the plants are amazing. His plants hit either HD or Lowes in July - Sept. Armstrong Nursery has Hawaii days in May or June to start their summer season - no date yet. They carry C Stars plants. HD or Lowes might have plumeria in stock in May - usually C-Stars or generic plants. Our weather is fabulous right now, but will be "May Gray" followed by 'June Gloom". If you find blooming plants, they will be in greenhouses or inland. I'm going to the South Coast Garden show on Friday, and will ask the sellers if they have booths at any shows during your time period. diana =^,, ^=

Kentucky - I got Golden Celebration, Lady of Shalot, Queen of Sweden and Darcey Bussell, and yes this forum enabled me. Sometimes when I see all those gorgeous Austin blooms, I'm a little envious, there are so many pretty ones, the decision wasn't easy, but I am starting with those to see how it goes.

David, where abouts are you in California, this nursery is in New port beach, ca. And they have all sorts of nice stuff, it might be worth the drive one day.

Greg,i don't need a napkin,i need a towel i'm drooling so much..Those are absolutely AWESOME!!!

Whoever put those together sure has an eye for color and textures.In that 2nd picture are those grey plants with the pink edges and getting ready to bloom pink flowers,are those Graptopetalums(sp)?? I have one of those that has 3 heads or whatever they are called and is also getting ready to bloom.It's one of my favs.
Thanks for sharing those,i'll have to go back again and again to have another look.

Laura, fabulously grown indeed, I notice that cacti & succulents love the climate at the beach, seems like all the plants know where their at.

Heres another nice arrangement, I believe the tall plant with the greenish grey leafs is an olive tree sprout, they had some Olive trees mixed with alot of cacti & succulents and I guess they would be comparable growers.

Beautiful place Greg. Nothing like that around here. I believe that is Agave Creme Brulee in the last picture.

newbie question: when you see a gorgeous bunch of different succulents crowded together for sale in a pot, how do you know they weren't all crammed in there JUST YESTERDAY- and is that bad? isn't that kind of false advertising? wouldn't some people buy it under the impression that they would stay looking like that? thanks, min

Hi min 3 , I don't know about false advertising but it sure looks good and wet a while you can propagate and start another pot of plants and another and another...
I've bought many and after time repot.

it's like any other display -
-clothing with all the 'right' pieces & accessories that you may not want/to be able/interested to buy...
-furniture, again with all the right accessories...
-you buy just one or very few-and it doesn't look the same!
But it's great for ideas/inspiration, and definitely helps the sales. And you just may be able to replicate over time...

What a nice color for a back drop, any cacti or succulent would fair well next to this color.
