Brenda: Camera angles and flash or not, they bloom pretty much the same all year long. Different stages of flowering. The star shaped Seuss will straighten out today. The only thing was the colors of the orange how deep they are this time of the year and the size of the flowers. They have been holding these buds since thanksgiving. There are 6 blooming the darkest are sheltered from the north wind and had flash. Good way to filter out the Texas background. Just playing with my new camera. I did not know I could make it flash in Macro.

A few years back, I worked for a big wholesaler who grew and distributed Brugs to growers around the state (CA). At that time, I had bought a C. Grimaldi, which all of the clones bloomed identical, and had the same leaf pattern/size, and each one was serrated and normal leaf size was between 12-16 inches long. The scent (from what I can recall) of the Charles Grimaldi has a more Heady tone to it when you smell it up close (like Sambac Jasmine or Madagascar Jasmine-Stephanotis). I believe it can be smelled from much further away than Dr. Seuss, and Dr Seuss has much longer tendrils (to 5 or 6 inches long on a mature tree - against Grimaldi's 2-4 inch long tendrils) pointing upward early in the evening, reflexing more toward the flute, and even curling inward after several hours after dark. It also has a slightly lighter scent, closer to Pink Favorite or Miss Anna - more powdery - less musk. I think a TRUE C. Grimaldi has more pumpkin tones in it, and the Dr. Seuss has a peachier yellow tone (of course, that can be subjective as many Brugs colors change with soil, light, temps, etc).

I have to say that my Dr. Seuss is only now near blooming, and I wonder if it's just a matter of being a big feeder , since it was a good sized plant already when moved outdoors here in Michigan for the summer. It was "too" late last year as well, and dropped buds after bringing it indoors for the winter last year. After spending about five days indoors in gloomy light , it finally warmed today, and to my dismay , both my brugs were dropping many leaves and buds from the low light , so back outdoors they went. I guess from the sudden low light after being out in more sun all summer the sudden low light indoors was a shock Anyway, since I can't safely move them out til early June here, they'll have to start blooming much earlier for me to appreciate them. That late blooming here won't cut it with our short summers.
