Just found you here!!! Yea, Dr. Seuss!!!!!

Hi everyone,

Please say hello to my friend, Carrie751, who was the source of my 'Dr. Seuss' (and a few others). She is kind of a newbie to the Internet world and has just started to visit this forum, but she's taking to it really well. She's an excellent gardener and a major friend to many birds. Her backyard, located north of the Dallas-Ft. Worth airport, is a designated wildlife habitat. Welcome, Carrie!

congrats on 'Dr Seuss'! Just curious, does the plant grow vigorously in Texas? I would have thought that with the 100+ F temps I've heard... there may be a slight chance of the plant melting. :)

Well, it's been coming along nicely...slowly but surely, here in the Pacific Northwest! I'll let Carrie answer in her own words as to her experience with it in TX.

Dr. Seuss was my first bloomer and is still going strong. I rooted him in the ground as the lady who gave him to me said to do, and it was where he gets a lot of HOTTTTTTTTT Texas sun. He has handled it nicely and is one of the easiest to care for. Just lots of water and fertilizer.

I have to say that my Dr. Seuss is only now near blooming, and I wonder if it's just a matter of being a big feeder , since it was a good sized plant already when moved outdoors here in Michigan for the summer. It was "too" late last year as well, and dropped buds after bringing it indoors for the winter last year. After spending about five days indoors in gloomy light , it finally warmed today, and to my dismay , both my brugs were dropping many leaves and buds from the low light , so back outdoors they went. I guess from the sudden low light after being out in more sun all summer the sudden low light indoors was a shock Anyway, since I can't safely move them out til early June here, they'll have to start blooming much earlier for me to appreciate them. That late blooming here won't cut it with our short summers.

I don't remember if you have had Dr. Seuss blooming in your gardens or not

I have my plants mixed up totally now..
We have moved households twice in the past two years and I just haven't kept plants labelled.

Have some nice Brugs, but will have to start over next year with new plants and labelling.
I am just thinking of the fragrance of those blooms. There is nothing like the scent of Brugmansia

Carrie you have them planted in full sun in north TExas??? Where my are all in containers and wilt when they get a lot of sun. But I saw one the other day in yard in full sun and they said it thrives year after year...

I believe that any plant grows better if it's planted in the ground. I for one am unable to grow plants in pots. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I can even kill petunias.
I have a Dr. Seuss in a pot and even if it's pretty cold here, we only get in the low 60s during the day, it's still wilting a little bit if I move the pot in full sun.
