new to Pasadena -- plant in sun or part shade?

I've just moved to Pasadena (near Eaton Canyon and Sierra Madre) and am having a hard time adjusting to the climate here! I know it's time to plant veggies like chard, kale, pees, cabbage, broccoli, carrots, beets, etc. But do I plant the seeds in full sun or in part shade? In other words, will they burn up in full sun? Or if I plant chards and lettuces in shade will it be too shady? I just don't know. September was so different here from Berkeley (where I'm from) - I'm just all turned around about planting!

And I saw on this forum that I can plant some tomatoes like Oregon Spring and Early Girl, though I'm not finding any tomatoes in nurseries.

Thank you! - Nova
