Beautiful!
I love watching the blooms/buds on these grow! Like a big balloon! Will be looking forward to seeing it !

thank you JoJo.... I didn't realize it actually did grow like a balloon, just several days ago it was smaller :)...
will post once it's opened and/or bigger...

Hi Mike! Oops! you may be right! My gardenia could be nasty to me because I have the gender all wrong! You see, in my native language, Gardenia is a "she", but who knows what happens in the plant world? Gardenias are acid loving plants, Right? I have mine in mixed soil composed of peat moss, compost and good soil. I water it solely with rain water (of which we have plenty) I do not let the soil completely dry out. It gets sun in the morning and later on in the afternoon; total about 3 hours. I fertilize it with coffee tea every 2 weeks.( I haven't been able to find Miracid in my area). At the moment the plant has two buds, but they are like that for the last 3 weeks and they do not open. What am I doing wrong? Is there another acid fertilizer that I could use? anything , at all that I could do to get it t o bloom? I have checked for insects and the plants seems healthy otherwise. What is it?Please help!! Europe is going through a heat wave, no rain and we here in the east are short of having a deluge. Every plant is nice and green but my tomatoes are waiting for some sun to ripen. My geraniums are reeling from so much water. I lost two pelargoniums and who knows what else I will lose! Mike thanks for the offer to come to the rescue with the insecticide recipe. My plants will apreciate and so will I! Today sunday is raining again! Depressing!

Gardengal, thanks for comforting me with news that it doesn't take over the garden! I have a David Austin Rose with small but profuse white flowers and it's just occurred to me that it might be a good companion. I get what you mean about the Agastache; it worked well in adjacent containers at least :-). Campanula, I have been growing it in a pot. It was in desperate shape when it arrived, but I was also a little wary of it. Someone gifted me with a small Scrophularia californica that in one season grew into a near giant of a plant. It had very insignificant flowers so I didn't think it was worth the space it took up and when I tried to remove it, I discovered very thuggish roots. They were thick and fleshy and they had scrambled everywhere and were the sort that resprouted vigorously. What is it about the Figwort family that has you wanting to avoid them? mxk3: I hadn't seen it before either, but once having seen it, it's fairly unforgettable as it is quite a stunning plant. I just ran across this old thread looking for something else. I was surprised to see Steve's photos of lilies mixed in with Hostas. Who knew they would grow in that much shade. I have mine in full sun and another location that is part sun and I think the full sun stand up straighter, and I thought it was the sun. But Steve's are straight in dappled shade. Beautiful garden, Steve, and I agree, I really look forward to when the lilies are blooming with their fragrance adding another dimension to the garden. I ordered new lilies bulbs and planted them last fall and I'm excited to see how they will work out. And that's a gorgeous red Hellebore, Kailleana!

Chuy, I'll venture to say your plant is Orbea variegata. The pod shouldn't get too much bigger. I think it'll open any day now! =)

Oh man! That's a beautiful flower, Chuy. The patterns and shape is so nice. I've always been put off because some tend to attract flies. This one seems bug free. ;]

Thank you all for your nice comments!! Makes me happy to know others enjoy it as well! I actually took it for a ride today to show off!! I text my brother a pic of it and couldn't believe his eyes. He didn't believe it was real. ;-). I had to prove it. Lol
