`will a opossum scare the squirrels away
Comments (20)This is a bit late but these small animals may be easier to kill but it is very easy to live catcb and drop them in another suita le area or have a rescue do it. There may be large numbers of some animals but they have natural predators that will keep the populations down and are needed alive so there is plenty of food for those predators. As far as fruit trees go havent you heard of putting something around the tree so the animals cant climb it or something else to keep the squirrels from your trees. All animals serve a purpose possums are the only marsupial we have in the usa they are 8 times least likely to have rabies than a dog they are related to koalas and kangaroos and are completely harmless to us and at the most they play posdum or bare their teeth but its just a fake out then they just run they are scared and should be they are pretty defenseless they are VERY. Important they are very good for yards and gardens they eat all the bad bugs and things and are the cleaners of the earth they eat all the. Dead things and without them the earth would be out of balance and wed be overrun with rotting drad carrion and things. Besides that possums are very sweet and they are blamed for getging in garbage but they are not to blame raccoons or other animals get the garbage out and naturally any animal passing. By will check it out. Ieave my garbage bags out and neither my wild raccoons or possums get into it maybe because its in A good bag thats closed and in a can with a tight lid(no temptation for raccoons) but i had an open bag sitting outside and watched all evening and the possums never went near it not once. Possums are wonderful little animals that have gotten a bad rap and they are far from a pest they are a benefit to the earth and if lucky enough to have around your yard they are great for your flower garden. You know you all are are kill happy. We are bigger but they deserve to live too, im sure we put a crimp in their life somewhat too. Please try to animal proof your fruit trees and if all else fail please either get a rescue to live trap or live trap its very easy and leave them in another good location they may or may not have to travel a little before findind an area not taken by another but theyd prefer that instead of being dead im sure. Please put yourself in their place before taking the little bit quicker easier way out. You will feel much better for it. We are bigger then they are but PLEASE see them as something with its own life and not just a pest, PLEASE!!!...See More300 roses = maintenance = scared off home buyers
Comments (43)Good luck summers !! I hope it goes in your favor . If you are keeping your current home as a rental then that’s wonderful as you can slowly move your roses while having tenants ! :) i left behind 200 roses. I never thought we’d leave . If we were to leave I certainly never thought it would be to California the only state with restrictions on bringing in plants . I had to cut my garden back very painfully to show the home in the fall . My realtor was constantly harping on me about it . Thanks fully it sold in the early early spring so things were fresh and new by then . When we originally put it on the market in the fall , we were going to make a nice profit from the booming market in our town and move to a nicer school district a few towns over , so I planned on moving my roses. Then my husband got this promotion to California, so I had to say bye to all my beloved plants . I absolutely loathe the thought that the new owners probably removed my roses but that’s what happens . If you don’t like roses , you certainly won’t like 200 of them ;) when we bought this house in Ca there were 35 trumpeter landscape roses on the back pool wall bed . The lady loved that I loved roses and assumed I’d be caring for her very jarring red roses with the slightest hint of orange that really drove me nuts . Couldn’t wait to be rid of them !! Comments (13)raitch, I made your tag red because I am seeing red this summer - squirrels!!!! Those monsters decimated my corn plants when they were only 4 feet tall and not a cob in sight! They came back and snatched approximately 80-90% of my raw green tomatoes most of the toms were small about the size of golf/tennis balls. I got really upset because I have a relatively small garden mostly in containers. I tried red hot pepper wax spray and it worked for about 3-4 days but during that time the squirrels bit into more and more tomatoes looking for some without pepper. I made a brew of water, 1/2 cup powdered red hot pepper and 1/2 cup red pepper flakes -- I put this in a small pot and simmered it for about 30 minutes and then added 1 teaspoon of canola oil. I let the mixture cool and strained it into my pump sprayer with a double dose of spreader sticker (Coco-wet) in gallon water. I sprayed this on everything. I also got large wood rat traps. I was still upset so went to farm store and got bobcat urine. Another gardener told me fox urine worked for him so I got some of that also. I put the urine in an old ketchup bottle and sprinkled it on the ground, fence ledge, fence post and all wood which squirrels use to 'run'. So far so good. You can not put the urine on your plants or in the pot with your plants but you can sprinkle it around the area. It stinks but after an hour you can not smell it anymore -BUT- the squirrels smell it. BTW - I only put the rat traps out when I could monitor them - did not want to catch any neighbor's cats. Did it work?? Let us just say that for the past 2 weeks squirrels don't live here anymore. I'm generally an animal lover - I leave them be as long as they leave me alone - but this was just too much. Dollar store has red pepper powder - don't get the more expensive stuff from your grocer. Comments (40)haaahaha...i now don't feel so bad knowing that a family of squirrels has taken up residence in my garage. good thing my garage is not attached to the house. but they have torn a huge hole in the back of my garage, and it seems that they are not even scared of me anymore. when i go in the garage, the mother squirrel does not even move from her spot up in the rafters. i swear today that one of them was waiting for me on my back porch....wtf?? thankfully my husband has just bought a giant assault rifle type pellet gun and is excited to use it. the squirrels have done so much damage to our garage, i almost feel like we might as well tear it down and build a new one. they have ripped down ALL the insulation, and the holes are ridiculous. so...good luck to all you squirrel hunters out there...and just remember...they might be cute..BUT THEY ARE STILL RATS!!!!...See Moretrillianh
