It was 111º in Fresno at 3 pm... suffocating to plants, pets and people.

It was 101 at 11am.
My helleborus and heuchera are suffering.
Having to baby some new salvias.

Wow, those are some serious temps. It only got up to 96 in Santa Rosa today, 97 yesterday. Plants are happy!!!

Geez, we cooled down to 108 today,everything got cooked yesterday.

It was 107 on my shady back porch here in Orland. It is supposed to be a bit cooler (105?) today. It is cloudy and muggy, I'm sure glad we have AC. I really feel sorry for those that have swamp coolers. My plants have been OK so far, I have everything on drip and I turn it on every evening or early in the morning when it is hot. It's too hot to be outside except in the early morning or late in the evening when the mosquitos are out. Since we have the highest West Nile in the state, we really have to be careful.

Here in Temecula wine country it has been in high 100's.
We are trying to keep our veggie garden and all our newly planted trees and shrubs hydrated not to mention ourselves!
My boxwood are doing well and so are the texas ranger, sweetpea shrub and some of my roses. My watermelon love the heat and are thriving. My tomatoes, spinach, some squash, cucumber, bush bean, peas, strawberries are all suffering.
hopefully some cooler weather will come soon. I hate to think about the water bill!

BKF here in Kern County is claiming the highest incidence of West Nile in the State!

But hey, with all those rice paddies up north in Tehama and Glenn Counties, I can see how they'd have more 'squiters and thus the virus too.

Ha! Yes, BKF is Bakersfield. Although I have sometimes felt it is purgatory, land of oil fields, onion fields, multiple nearby state prisons, medical centers, sludge and far too many gangs and drug dealers. Is it any wonder that a Hollywood actor would be busted in Bakersfield for drugs, only to go back to LA for parole violation and sentencing? I wonder if they'll let him plant tomatoes?

For a seed in the wind, I sure landed in a heck of a place. Do you know the way (back) to San Jose ( SJO )?

The heat wave broke here last evening, when cool delta breezes swept thru the Sacramento area, knocking the temperature down twenty degrees in a couple of hours. I was almost cold taking out the trash in my jammies before going to bed. It's still quite windy this morning. Good, now I can get some projects done. Sue

I watched the temps on the weather station drop last night, just as Sue said! It was actually in the 80s by bedtime, after reaching 100 (and staying there for at least 3 hours) earlier in the day. It's down in the upper 50s this morning, and the breeze from the south makes me think life is good. :D

The great heat wave lasted 48 hours in the bay area. Today the dark cold fog-and wind,brought temps down about 30 degrees from three days ago. I hate that.

It was only in the 90s in Glenn County, it is supposed to be 103 tomorrow. We sure could use a break.

Yeesh, 100 miles of I-15 closed in UT by a 160,000 acre fire, 100 miles of 395 closed by lightning fires, 52 large fires and 400 small fires burning 7/7/07 in the west. And only 4-5 months before we see rain again in SoCal.

Neat map! The Antelope Complex fire was actually up to 11,500 acres as of last night (way up from the 3,500 reported on that site). Some evacuations, but no homes threatened at the moment, thankfully.

On a lighter note, I love some of the names they come up with for fires. Scared Armadillo...:)

Nah, BKF is what is foundered into sewer ( manhole ) covers here.

I used to fly out of SJO and RHV, but I'm loosing my eye sight now and so courteously, I no longer fly. .... Yes, for sure, I do indeed miss it.

It's overcast and cooler, but more humid and so, more uncomfortable unless, you have a fan pointed at you while mucking around in the dirt.

But I'm greatful. A lot of plants were beginning to have leaves turn yellow, even though they were well watered and more to the point, wet down periodically and shaded. Climbing Rose Bush of all things, look dreadful after these past three days, but due to watering have lots of new shoots.

But one plant that just doesn't seem to care is this dwarf banana I got at dirt cheap. This thing pushes up new leaves every 3 to 4 days and when the newest leaf opens up, another is already spiralling out full bore. It's the fasted growing plant I've got and doesn't seem to care at all about what weather it's got. What a personality!
