Mangoes in Fresno?

Hi guys,
I always knew mangoes have a hard time fruiting in even warm areas of Southern California, but I keep seeing mango trees at the big box stores year after year. Someone is obviously buying them since they continue to supply the store with them constantly. I wonder if anyone in Fresno or the Central Valley has had any luck with them? I visited the Galilee region of Israel last year and they grow mangoes commercially under shade netting (similar to the bee netting used to cover citrus crops in the valley.) The climate there is similar to ours except for a little added humidity.
I know White Sapotes and Lychees do well here, but I'm wondering how viable mangoes would be?
