Daniella I almost wonder how Moonlight Caladiums can live, with so little chlorophyll, or so it would appear. I will trade for some of them if you have enough in the fall, I have hundreds of caladiums to trade.

Sure Barry. I have noticed with the moonlights that if they get a more than on hour of direct sun they start to get some green to them..almost looks like they are growing algae or moss! Another weird thing for my yard, lol. Bunnies love 'em too, the only caladiums they bother with. Do you have any probs with bunnies & caladiums?

I see rabbits around here, perhaps the cat scares them off, so far no leaves eaten. I do have a woodchuck,who has just decided to visit my garden, I have some young seedlings that are choice eating for them: Fall broccoli, carrots, beets and Swiss Chard. He better stay away from them, he as gotten one of my smaller amaranths so far...

O NO! Get a trap and get rid of him NOW! otherwise forget it, you're so screwed. Get a Have-A-Heart and when you take him to relocate him, make sure it is at least 5 miles away or he will come right back. I had to do this myself. The second year we were here, so many groundhogs/woodchucks (same thing), squirrels as well. I was relocating every day! They never came back. Now I just have the bunnies, which my neighbor lets live under her deck, and puts food out for them every day..argh.
Of course I still have squirrels, but not like I used to. The raccoon though..smart lil SOB knows how to get the bait out of the trap without setting it off. I just can't catch him! If I didn't have the pond with the fish I wouldnt care, but I happen to like my fish..alive! Opposums don't bother anyone or anything so I let them be.

unfortunately,where I live right at the edge of the woods on the Connecticut River, there is a woodchuck for each home ~~ LOL.

Last year one ate some plants and moved under my Shed. I had to bury the entrance but he/she re-dug it. then I got a trap and after 10 days of special treats and store bought lure for bait, I gave up and cleaned out the trap. Next day there he/she was, in the trap, no bait to get him/her! go figure.

I don't believe that the rascal will do too much damage to my tropicals; it is the young vegetable plants before they reach a larger height. Another concern is the caladiums. So far it has been 5 days since anything was eaten. I am waiting to see if trapping, no matter how difficult, is necessary.
We will see.

We used fruit to bait the traps. Eat an apple, throw the core in there, etc... It works.
I wish you luck with that guy. I tried that at first too..covering the hole, used bricks, chunks of cement, anything I could find that it couldn't dig through..blocked all holes, even filled the holes as much as I could with stones. They would re-dig under the shed, make new holes, and I would find the smaller stones that I used to fill the entrances scattered outside the new holes, lol. I even threw sticker branches in there! They took them out. Then I resorted to trapping. I hope it doesn't eat too much of your gardens.

It looks like some type of hardy hibiscus. I have seeds from several varieties. Maybe it got mixed up? That's another cerinthe major. Kiwi is b;ue/purple and the foliage has a blue green tint. I feel bad. They must have all cross pollinated. I have more seed marked Kiwi that I can send you. You should still have enough time for it to grow. I wonder what happened with the seeds I sent out. I sent out a couple hundred cerinthe seeds. I haven't heard from anyone. I should see if I can find anyone else that I sent them to and ask what color blooms they have. I don't have any woodchucks so I think they're cute. If I had one in my yard I'd be singing a different tune. lol

I think they are hardy hibiscus as well. Did I send you seeds from the confederate rose? It could be that. Some jerk closed a racoon up in the dumpster at the lake last night and it scarred the crap out of me when I was cleaning out the boat. I bet they heard me all the way across the lake screaming, lol. I made John go let it out, lol. Poor thing was probably dying of heat stroke. I think John is trying to cash in on my life insurance policy, lol. He said he didn't see it in there when he threw his drink can away then he asked me to throw in some other stuff and that head and glowing eyes popped up like the exchorist, lol. He handed me a coffee cup with cream and sugar Friday and asked me to poor him another cup of coffee when it finished brewing and there was a gecko in it. Coffee cup went flying, lol. Don't know where it came from. I love critters but only if I see them first and not surprise ones, lol. I squeal like a pig when something scares me.

lmao Kristy! I hope the gecko was alive, and John wasn't drinking his coffee with a dead gecko in the bottom..thats just nasty to think about. Poor John. Hehe..maybe he put it in there on purpose to scare you!
Talk about squealing like a pig, I had my 1st hummer in the garden today, at least the 1st that I have seen. I was so excited I started screaming, 'hummingbird hummingbird!!' and flapping my hands & squealing. I scared the poor lil guy away. I came running in the house yelling and still flapping my hands like an idiot..no one cared. DH said it was prob a sphinx moth, ugh. He only said that cuz last year he saw one on my petunias and thought it was a hummingbird..I corrected him, and so I guess he thought he'd try to burst my bubble. No way baby, that hummer was 4ft in front of my face and looked right at me!!

ANywho..Yes Kristy, you had sent me confed rose, pink &white hardy hib, and texas red star! I bet it's one from you. Can't wait till it blooms! YAY! I'll post pix! I also have a bunch of confed rose seedlings coming up in a pot..no red stars or pink & whites out of the outdoor pot seeds took..but I'm not giving up!

Karyn, I hadn't gotten any hib seeds from you, but it could be possible one seed got mixed in by accident? Prob one of Kristy's though I think I would have noticed a dif seed mixed in with others. We'll see what the flowers look like. You don't have to send me more cerinthe seeds, are you kidding? I love these ones much more than the pix I see when I google! I'm surprised noone you sent them to has let you know how they are doing. I am so excited to tell you all what's going on with what I got from you all.
I started collecting seeds from the 1st plant to bloom yesterday.
I can't remember which you said you had alot of blooming for you this year, but if you want any of the seeds from these lighter colored ones let me know and I'll send you some.
LOL, yeah the groundhogs are cute, till they start eating your garden up! I didn't mind them in my yard, I'd sit and watch them..even feed them! Until they started mass destruction, and having millions of babies..ok not millions but..ya know, lol.

Yep, that's definately a perrenial hibiscus. I have one right now that is budding just like yours. I really like your caladiums, they're really cool.

Thanks Josh. I didn't expect those caladiums to get as big as they are..and they're getting bigger every day..they are swallowing up my 'Snow Angel' Heucheras! The'Moonlight's I have in a pot filled it out real nice though..I think I may have put too many bulbs in that pot, lol. Hardly any of my colored ones came up :(
What is the sun situation for your hibs?
None seem to be able to take full sun here. They need morning or dappled. Doesn't seem much can take full sun here anymore.
