OT: New and wanted to intro myself

Hi everyone..I posted a question and hello a few weeks ago, but seems some people missed it..SOOO...I wanted to say hello ! I have traded with a few wonderful people here on this forum already.( in the seed or plant exchange forums)

My name is Kym, I live in RI but grew up in PA, and lived about 10 years in Fla. I have two teenagers, a dog, cat, rabbit, and piranha.

We moved to a new home two years ago, and a month later I was in a car accident...so gardening for me now, is pretty much working on the seeds, and hubby plants into the yard, and I watch them grow..BUT I am SOO thankful for the garden..It has been wonderful therapy !!

I have been on GW for over a year, but am just learning and loving brugs. I have only one..and not even sure of the color, just soo happy I got it thru the winter..LOL

I can see what a wonderful group of people are on this forum, and I hope I can make new friends, and become an enabler too...grin.

I think my other passion ( pun intended) is for passion flowers..I have three now, and will have another one come Mothers day...yes, i put my order in with the family..LOL

I have been doing all I can to attrack birds to the yard..we put out oranges and jelly yesterday to see if we can attrack orioles. I usually only see hummers late in the season, so I have been working on getting them a bit earlier too.

Well, I look forward to meeting you all, and I have been learning ALOT about Brugs...and I went to the nursery the other day and they are actually SELLING them this year..I think I squealed when I saw them..LOL

BTW, can anyone tell me why you would want to remove the leaves from the brug plant ? Still trying to figure that one out..

We remove the leave to help with insect control while inside for the winter and when they go outside it keeps them from getting sunburned due to the sudden change of more sun. The new leaves grow and adapt to the normal sunlight. Welcome to the forum. Ask your question again if it got missed. So sorry if we didn't see it. It is better to garden with limits than to not garden at all. I'm glad you have some help to enjoy your flowers.

Welcome to the Brug site Kym! A piranha for a pet, must have been your teenagers who wanted it, LOL! It will be a wonderful surprise when your brug gets larger and blooms! You will need to let us know when it does. Eloise

Lucy, I was thinking as I was waiting for the message to load, that if I knew you wanted a bike I would have sent you mine. Bought it years ago and never rode it. I don't think I can turn it into a cute planter like yours though. LOL!!! Blue Daze is a great flower to grow in the heat as it blooms like crazy! Welcome, Joe! I'm about 6 hours north of you - north of Dallas, but have visited the San Antonio area several times. There are some good gardening links from other posters that will be very helpful to you. As far as the spiders, consider them friends since they will hopefully capture lots of mosquitoes in their webs. ;-) I've walked through my share of spider webs and it isn't fun, but don't get too upset since they're beneficial. I saw a nice size wolf spider making its way across my backyard this afternoon. Hopefully our dog didn't step on it and it made it safely to my landscape border. Right now I'm listening to our toad (thought it was a frog at first) who is sitting on our waterfall rock singing away trying to lure in a female toad. That's another beneficial critter in my yard. You will eventually find lizards around too, but I'm sure you had your share of those in Florida. Anyway, welcome to the Texas Gardening forum. We're all a friendly bunch of folks here who will be happy to answer your gardening questions and maybe you'll help us with some of our questions too.

Oak,there won't be a next time. LOL. Just the one. I thought about going to Toys R Us but decided to ebay instead. I do shop on Amazon but I didn't check them. This was all kind of spur of the moment. I'm at my daughter's as my computer has something wrong with it and went out on me last night. On a weekend of course. I nearly went nuts without it during the midnight hours since I don't sleep and NEED it. I read and watch TV but the computer is my lifeline to distraction from Fibro. I hope guy can get out tomorrow, if I don't shoot myself tonight with nothing to do. And nothing on TV either, figures it would be a bad TV night as well. Arrrggghhh. I may try to come back over here around 9 or so, if ok with not disrupting their evening routine. But just for a short time to check mail and and my Forum stuff. twotogo - thank you for your nice welcome. This is kind of a weird situation - kind of premature for real retirement planning - but it is a one time opportunity that we need to make some decisions on in the not too distant future. I know from past experiences when we considered building a home that I have a hard time compromising on what I want vs. what I can afford. Remodeling our kitchen was very educational in terms of the cost of different choices. I have actually spent quite a bit of time over the years pondering house plans and other house stuff - either at times we considered building or at times we considered remodeling to improve things in our current home. I'm a big fan of The Not So Big House - spending more on the character of a smaller space vs. on more space. I know I have a hard time with the idea of making a decision from a plan where I've never actually been in the house - or at least seen photos of the "finished goods". That is why I am drawn to things that are closer to what I've had. Also entirely unclear at this point if we would sell current place in the foreseeable future and build new place in next few years - or just buy the property now and build retirement place in 10 years or so. All kinds of ideas spinning around at this point - it's fun to consider the possibilities.

I am starting out new too and can not wait to see my first blooms.
LOL at the piranha. From your whole post, that is the ONLY thing that got stuck in my mind lol.
If it was not a brugs forum........I would ask........how do you keep a piranha lol.

Oh my goodness another one to enable...lol I hope you know what your getting into Kym. These people are not only very friendly but they are all ENABLERS. You will have more brugs than you know what to do with shortly. I'm sure some of them will help you out with your other addiction too. Want you Karyn?.....LOL

Please make yourself at home with the greatest group of people on the garden web, nah, on any of the Garden Sites on the web. These people are WONDERFUL, kind of like one big family here. If you have something to share we all want a start of it. If you have something your looking for most of the time someone here has it and you will have one shortly thereafter.

I guess I shouldn't be bragging about that too much because before you know it everyone will be hanging out in the Brugmansia forum. LOL Ok, everyones secret is safe with me.

thanks soo much for all the warm welcomes ! Yes, the piranah is my sons, it has to be in a tank all alone cause it will eat anything that enters the tank..BUT anyone that comes to the house enjoys it..as long as I dont have to feed it, I am good...LOL

I went to a nursery today, ok actually two ...ones I havent been to before, and they were selling datura with buds on it..I um...kinda just HAD to have one...LOL It is the ballerina purple. I know it isnt a brug, BUT I couldnt pass it up.

I really have noticed how great everyone is here..it seems like I am walking into a family..you all have such great relationships ! I saw that when everyone jumped right in to help Bonnie and Mike.

Thanks for "including me" I look forward to getting to know you ALL much better !

Mike, and Linda it is nice to meet you ! YES, I love to be enabled BUT I like to enable also...LOL Gardening IS SOO addicting !! I have to stay home so i dont buy anymore this week..I think hubby thinks I have lost it a bit..there isnt any room left in our kitchen..who needs to eat ON the table anyways ?? grin.
