Looking for a large flowered pink Brugmansia

Hi,

I'm looking for a large flowered pink Brug. I found Ecuador Pink at Logees. The plant is in a 4 inch pot for $18.00 plus $10.00 shipping so I felt $28.00 for this small of a plant is rather expensive. If anyone knows where I could find either a larger plant or an unrooted cutting for less I'd be grateful. Thanks.

I just ordered a Cherub pink from Park Seed Catalog for $9.95 and shipping is $6.95. There is a discount code for $5 off a $10 order. To use it, add a $2 packet of seeds or something. The plant is only a 3", but it's not a bad price for what looks like a beautiful variety to me.

I should also say that I don't know a thing about brugmansias, except that I think they are spectacular. I grew one last year, but lost it when it got cold, and I really want to try it again. I'm enjoying reading all of your posts about them.

Ooops! My mistake! There's a much smaller plant that I've heard referred to as "Japanese Knotweed" but when I looked up Polygonum cuspidatum, I saw that y'all were right! I guess I won't be trying to root any cuttings! Thanks!

Thank you for this information. I have 4 of these elsewhere and would rather not duplicate varieties. I also would like a single, not a double. I know, I'm too fussy! :-) It seems all the singles in shell pink have a distinct bar in the center. No solid shell pink. Abilene is nearly perfect, but grows only up to 4 to 5 feet. I need 8 - 10. I may end up duplicating Nelly Moser however, as it would add pink to my 'tower', be a pruning group 2 and also blend well with another tower across the pathway with only barred singles growing on it, Dr. Ruppel, Wildfire, Barbara Jackman and Fireworks. Oh, such difficult decisions for this avid clematis grower! LOL!! Thank you!

I don’t have blooms on my ranunculus either Azusa, just foliage. Looking back on my records, my ranunculus start blooming in late March or early April every year. I live about 12 miles from the famous “Carlsbad Flower Fields”. They grow thousands of ranunculus, and sell the cut flowers and corms, seasonally. The fields are open from March 1 -May 12. Their ranunculus bloom a little earlier in Carlsbad, (slightly warmer nights by the coast) and bloom longer, (cooler Spring days, than at my place, 12 miles inland.) Your ranunculus sound like they’re right on schedule. I’m trying to overwinter my lisianthus this year. I didn’t realize they were actually tender perennials, until this year. The foliage looked very ratty by November, and I recently cut them back to a healthy looking rosette of foliage. Mine get a bit of afternoon shade, and I made sure to amend the little planting holes with perlite and compost. My soil is heavy clay, and I suspect they’d rot without the extra drainage. I really would like to grow some of the really unusual colors available at Johnny’s Seed, but I hear they’re difficult from seed. Stocks are great winter bloomers for us. Isn’t the scent wonderful? I purchased some very pale pink stock seed, from Floret, but I haven’t seen a thing from them. I did save at least half of them, so I’ll try again in the Fall. You picked out some lovely roses! We pale pink lovers don’t lack for choice when it comes to roses, that’s for sure. I’ve never grown Scepter’d Isle, but it’s gorgeous in pictures. My Queen of Sweden wasn’t very happy planted in the hottest, sun-scorched spot I could have possibly given it. It’s no surprise she didn’t perform very well for me. I’ve learned that very few David Austin roses are truly happy in full, blazing sun in MY yard. In my yard the true exception to this has been ‘Evelyn’. Everyone’s got a different microclimate, though. Those growing the exact same rose, in the same zone, can get drastically different results. I need to look up that pink lavender! I didn’t realize there was a pale pink one available. I’ll be looking up your camellias, as well. I’m currently growing one, and it finally has a few buds on it. I can’t remember if it’s a pale pink, or a darker pink. That’s another thing I need to look up. Every year I vow to be more organized in my garden journal. I’m finding it SO helpful to look back on. The problem is remembering to write it down in the first place. There are some gorgeous breadseed poppies out there. Unfortunately, I don’t have any pale pink ones. A 3" cutting is a VERY small cutting. Why would anyone sell such a tiny start?

I just hate to spend a lot of money on one when I'm not sure how it will do for me. :( Actually, I bought a much bigger one last year and it gave me several blooms that were just wonderful. I didn't bring it in before we got a frost and it lost all its leaves. I thought it was dead, and I threw it away. Now, reading all the posts here, I think it was probably fine and I feel so bad that I let it go! So now I'm trying a little inexpensive one and hoping I can nurse it along.

I just ordered Cherub from Park Seed. The only other place I could find this variety was PDN for $22 and Logee's for $25 so I feel that Park's had the best deal and all sellers offered the same size. So $17 with shipping was the best deal. Since Brugs grow so fast I don't mind starting with a small one. Hopefully I can get it to bloom this year. I'll put it in my greenhouse till I can put outside hopefully the end of April.

Scott, enjoy your plant. Cherub is a nice plant and will give you lots of blossoms, probably a few this year. That is a pretty small plant for someone to be selling. If you had read the above you would have gotten a much nicer plant for less. We take care of each other here on GW. Join us for the fun and benefits. In the fall many of us give cuttings and seeds away for postage. That is an awefully nice way to get some really good varieties. Many of the varieties would cost quite a lot on Ebay or even more at a nursery. Most nurseries don't carry the really nice varieties, anyway.

I got my Cherub start from Park's today and I'm very happy with it. It is very thick and sturdy and it has lots of leaves and several new sprouts near the bottom of the stem. Maybe it will give me some cuttings to trade with someone this fall. I'm so excited to watch it grow!

Scott, did you find your large pink brug? 'Pink Beauty' is the largest I've seen...both a large plant and large pink blooms. I had it at one time (potted), but actually had to tie it with guy wires to keep it from blowing over, even in a sheltered area.

I'm 5'11" and could barely reach the bottoms of the lowest blooms on that brug!

I live very close to you and just starting to grow a little rooted Cherub cutting. Did you grow your large brug in this area? Did you grow it in a pot and take it inside in the fall? I want to be sure I winter mine over okay. Thanks.

I ordered my Dr. Seuss from Maranatha, and they were back ordered until the last of May I think it was. Since the plants were small, Steve at Maranatha sent along a bonus brug, Marrakesh, and I am very pleased with their customer service. Quick shipping and the plants were well packed.
