Did you all make it ok so far with all the snow you are getting / having?

But the good news is, soon we will be complaining about the heat lol

The Hawaiian Ginger that Kristy gave me last spring bloomed and smelled so wonderful.

It also multiplied like crazy but since it was in the same pot as a few Cannas AND the Hibiscus AND the ornamental potato vines (that also grew potatoes lol)It is so intertwined (sp) that I had no idea how to seperate them. Kristy said not to do it this year anyways.

Got it in their own pot already :-)

It's still snowing over there? Its so rainy in Trinidad these days and we are supposed to be going into Dry Season. I want the rain to end!

Siam I remember you saying that you got the rain season and it is yet proof again that the weather is going crazy all over the world.

Thank you! Gail, the light is old, not original, but probably 20 years. During my light hunting, I did see many similar ones.. try searching for nautical lighting or coastal lighting. There was another company I had booked marks as well.. I'll see if I can find them!

Gone_South, I saw the picture of the mural before but didn't want to scare you off of it. lol The field tile they used really plays up the gray in the mural and that isn't the look you need. You need to have some of those gray tones in the mural but need a field tile that will stay in the warm tones your kitchen needs. I totally get what you're looking for. At least I think I do. The two murals that you're drawn to are very classic equine. I really hope you find that right mural. If I were in your place, I'd be doing the exact same thing! Found this mosaic of Whistlejacket on eBay. Love the colors in this for your kitchen. Picks up the gray tones you need from your granite and looks like it pulls in the color of your cabinets. Problem is the size. It is 40"x40". But wanted you to see it just to give you ideas. Here's another one that I found on eBay. Also a mosaic and it is 40"x28". Too big but love the colors. I wonder if you could remove enough of the bottom of this mural to make it fit your space. Just a thought. Also found this site called Artwork on Tile and they'll make custom murals from digital photos. You can customize the size as well as the image. They will put your image on ceramic tile, tumbled marble or glass tile. You just need to provide a digital image that is a high enough resolution for the size mural you want. I googled Whistlejack images and there are tons. I thought this one looked like the colors would work with your granite and cabinets. Lots of options and ideas out there. Week 18: a day late and $$ short

I love gray days, but it's probably somewhat of a grass is always greener thing. The grayest places I've lived are a couple spots around the Bay Area. Mostly I've lived in so cal. I'm at school/work waiting for students to finish a quiz. I'm advisor for Academic Decathlon this year, I can't believe all these students volunteer to study and take quizzes. Amazing. My top of my head list of what's to be done by the HD GC: Finish crown Fix existing crown Install floating shelves Install remaining furniture base (was back ordered) Install all light rails Install 3 fillers Fix drywall which was broken out around 3-gang switch Fix door frame that they put 15 staples into Get faucet flowing properly (it's about 1/3 if what it should be) Then there's the whole end panel situation (got call today that it's arrived), which means coordinating them, the floor guys, and the SZ guy) Still missing some shelves and ancillary parts, I delayed pushing those because I wanted that ordered only once. Our other GC and local cabinet guy-Frame and plank (some have called it a canopy) need to be built and installed with the pendants. Got estimate earlier in the week and gave asked for a written plan/design sketch. Local cabinet guy is not quick, we know, which is one reason we didn't go with him for more. But he will also shave down the door and drawer necessary. Oh and innermost rep was getting me some side to side adjustment capable drawer hardware and a few other things. Last, but not least, we're about 95% sure that HD paid the GC without us signing off. We paid quite a bit for permits, and only a lighting permit was pulled, and if course it's not inspected or anything yet. When the HD KD and innermost rep were out 2.5 weeks ago, it sounded like we might not be dealing with THAT GC again. Now that the panel is in, it's time to go chat with HD and find out. Another Rainy Week Ahead

Amy, Unfortunately it is about to start feeling like July. The good thing about the rain is it has kept us cooler. There's no rain in my 7-day forecast, so I expect we'll dry out a lot over the next week, and we're expected to hit the upper 90s early next week. Can 100 degrees be far behind? Bon, Yay for the rain. You did need it and I'm glad you got it. You may feel stormed out, but it will be a fleeting feeling. We are about to feel the wrath of July heat + high humidity from all the moisture in the ground, so I think it is going to feel worse for a while before it feels better. Carol, Well, Grove was overdue for some heavy rainfall and apparently it finally happened. With all the accidents on the lake over the July 4th weekend, I hope people will be exceptionally carefully out there on the water now that there's all the runoff from all that rainfall. I have about half of my garden weeded and more or less under control---the upper half that dries out more quickly. I got a lot of that weeding done in the two hours I was out there this morning. I quickly harvested the one row of tomato plants that I hadn't harvested from prior to the storm, and then I weeded, weeded, weeded as the sun climbed higher in the sky and the temperatures began heating up. The fence lines are a mess, though, and I have to go slowly and carefully with them because that's one of the favorite hiding places of the timber rattlers. I do the same thing with rain gauges. I've noticed that even the radar-indicated rainfall this year has rarely matched what I've recorded in my rain gauge, and neither does our mesonet station's. It's why I try to keep an unbroken rain gauge (and occasionally a slightly-cracked one that manages to record most of the rainfall) out in the yard at all times. I left the one that cracked in the winter and put a new one beside it. There is only about a 0.10" difference between the two, so the broken one is almost recording correctly. Dorothy, For so long this year, I was worried y'all weren't getting enough rain, but I can see now that you're getting plenty. Last year was perfect for us in terms of rainfal, beginning in mid-June, and once the rain started, it's hardly stopped at all. Prior to mid-June, the drought was so bad I was about to close the garden gate and walk away, so the rain began falling in the nick of time. It can stop now if it wants. After the drought years of 2011-2013, I am just thrilled to have plenty of rainfall and (so far) not too many grasshoppers. It has been a struggle all year to keep up with the bare minimum of mowing, trimming and hand-weeding, but we just keep plugging along, doing what we can when we can and not worrying or fretting about what we can't get done. You can only do whatever the conditions, weather and time available allow, so I try not to worry about the rest. Eventually we'll get it all done. Sandplum, I weeded all I could this morning and was happy with what I got done, but some of those weeds were so big already that I had to dig them out rather than pulling them out. I'll get out there in the cool early morning hours tomorrow and try to work on it for another 2-4 hours. In June and July the harvesting and canning keeps me too busy to focus too much on weeding, and the rain this year has made weeding even harder to accomplish, but the tomato canning is winding down now, so I should get to weed every day for the next week, especially with no rain in the forecast. I think that with a week of weeding every morning, I should catch up on the backlog of weeds waiting to be removed. Y'all, I don't remember exactly what our all-time record rainfall is, but I believe it is around 59". I need to look it up and see. I am fairly certain we'll break that record this year, as Burneyville is sitting at 54" right now. Never, ever, even after 2007, did I think we'd see that sort of rainfall here. Dawn

Thank you for the prayers! I'm so glad I don't have to go to work today!My minivan fishtails so easily. No school today either!! Snowed overnight, stopped for a couple hrs. this morning, now we're getting hit with round 2.Temps 27, dropping through the afternoon into the teens!The wind is horrific! Come on spring!

Our snow is melting and it is supposed to be 70 on Thursday....how crazy is that?? Hopefully after this snow storm we got, spring will be on its way. I think it ruined my frosytia blooms and my saucer Magnolia blooms for the year tho!! This will be a good week fro me, I am only working Tues then not again until Sunday!!! wooo hooo!!!! My daughters play is this week,I can't wait to see it!!!

Bob, its just the regular butterfly ginger. Its very hardy and smells sooo good. I will check my pot and see if there is a piece I can snag for you. I divided it last year so not sure since my sister took most of it but I'll try, lol.

Now Barb you are going to make me go in the garage and dig out the girl scout books ha ha ha so I can continue that tune lol

But my hole body hurts so I will rest now and just lay down and watch TV after I am done with the dishes. I shoveled 2 yards of compost out of the bed of the truck into the flowerbeds in the front yard. Still got 1 1/2 beds left to do in the front. After it was empty I rushed back to the city composting place and picked up another full truckload. Starting on the one flowerbed next to the garage. I wanted to plant some plants in there yesterday and I KNEW I had to improve the soil first. I was supprised that the EE's grew as good as they did in that soil.

So I CU all tomorrow
