I agree!!!! It is an amazing flower. I had an orange one before but it was paler in comparison. I have no idea of the name...but this one is a keeper.

Gosh Kristi, that is the very amaryllis my sister was looking for for a friend who wanted an orange one! Speaking of which, why can I not find Orange Sovereign? I had it 3 years ago when I was first starting but can not find it at any of the places I trust to mail order. I tried Naranja from Royal Colors but it was much smaller and not as spectacular as OS.I can only hope it is one of my "learner bulbs" and may appear again some day as I try to nurse them back to health.

And by the way, I love the shape and color of yours! IT is just so elegant!

'Orange Sovereign' gets my vote. There may be a few other orange hippies but so far, none has been as nice as OS.

'Orange Sovereign' is my favorite, too! This one looks a little too "pink" to be OS, but it looks too deeply colored to be 'Nagano', the only other orange variety I'm familiar with. Maybe you have a bud sport?

I was able to pick up a Nagano this week in California, along with Pasadena and Clown.

So....hmmmm.....still a mystery. Maybe Mariava will chime in. Very interesting how the blooms bow. I was really looking forward to a nice Minerva (my umpteenth!), but I like non-reds, so this one IS a keeper! The backside's nearly as pretty as the bloom! I love texture!

Do you think this is the same, this is another mismarked bulb that I cant identify. There seems to be one named Amaryllis Orange? I thought that was the closest and then i was leaning toward OS. It was suppossed to be Giraffe, at first a few suprises was fun but now not so much........

It's definitely not Orange Sovereign. The colour is really more pink and OS lacks those stains on the backside. First it reminded me because of the white petal tips.

Beatiful though. I prefer those last pictures to the ones with the black background. They are more sharp ... on wich ones is the colour more accurate?

Kristi,the first bloom,orange is very much like hundreds of seedlings I have discarded, in selfing and crossing Pasadena with a double red. I've never seen an ugly Hippeastrum,but I have kept some outstandingly beautiful oranges,single and double. Yours may, or may not, be a named variety.

The colors on the black background are true. Those are taken without a flash so as to get a more true color. Note that the anthers are orange, not red. I prefer not to refer to the markings on the back of the blooms as "stains"...ever heard of a good stain(?); personally I think the white and green on the back of the petal is pretty. Anyway, it's a lovely flower...just a mystery.

Kristi, that's really a nice bloom. It looks a bit in shape and stature like the Sonatas / Sonatini's from Blooming Bulb this season.

Becky, I agree that's not Giraffe! And also agree that the surprises get to be not so much fun after awhile.

Alana...No that is not Rilona. That is Apricot Beauty. Another variety that has been taken out of production. I got lucky to have gotten this from Wayside Gardens several seasons ago. It has huge full(overlapping petals),round and long lasting flowers.

Gorgeous pictures!

Doh! I completely blanked on Rilona, and would you believe... I have one! The memory is worse than I thought! :-)

I was cruising through Emaryllis.com last night and stumbled across Orange Monarch. Seems to have the same coloration on the back of the bloom. Mariava, does Nagano have the cream and green on the back of the petals? I guess I'm hoping it's really not Nagano since I just bought one in CA?! Oh well...if it is, I'll love it just as much.
