Will you plant your amaryllis seedlings out in the Spring as well?

Soultan, my plans are to plant them in the spring. I have some gardening friends in my area that are interested in getting threir hands on a couple of the seedlings so I think that by spreading them around I may have a better chance of gitting a few to live to the oint of blooming.

Very wise. Then you can beg them to give some of them back to you if you are the unfortunate one to kill yours. :o)

Soultan, I want to thank you for posting the photos online that you have shared, they are great, please post more. Also to any one else that has posted photos thank you to all. My camera was one of many items taken from my house when it was broken into not long ago. I have not replaced it yet as the cost was high and why give the thieves another target.

I have tons of pictures, but they are all poster sized and take too much time to convert, and I am a lazy bum, so at least, I put whatever I have worked on up here, so you can enjoy. I wish I were a little more determined to take the pictures and share them. I should be more vain and just parade with them. :o) But it seems like, I am the quiet kind of collector. I am just happy to know that I have the flowers and see them flowering. The first year, I have not even pollinated them. What a waste of opportunity obtaining a lot of seeds...

Soultan - People collect things for different reasons... if it makes you happy just to collect bulbs so you can enjoy the flowers, then you should just enjoy your lovely flowers! I would love to see more of your gorgeous photography... I'm sure we all would... but I can wait until you feel like converting more photos to web size. :-)

Feighner - Good to hear that your seedlings are doing well! I hope I have the same luck as you... I've got 2 groups of Hippi seeds planted, and another group of Dalily seeds, all in a little plastic tray using cocopeat/vermiculite as the medium. They're on a heat mat, and I'm hoping this will help hasten germination... nothing is happening so far, but it hasn't been that long since I planted them... this is my first attempt at growing Hippi seeds!

Jodik, I floated my hippi seeds to get them started and then carefully planted them by making a hole in the potting soil, placed the root in the hole and then watered it all in well. The soil was soaked before the planting so that I would not need have to deal with dry areas within the planting pots. The daylily seeds where started on wet papertowels and them transfered to pots the same way. It was the first time I tried to strat seeds this way and it seems to have worked well for me. Good luck with your seeds and let us know how they are doing.

I don't feel like taking photos now. I am upset that my Angelique is not Angelique. I will have to complain and go through all the troubles now.

Poor Soultan... you are the King of Mislabeled Bulbs! They seem to be attracted to you... like magnets! I hope you can get that one resolved with no trouble, as well as any others...

Feighner - Nothing is happening yet, but then, seeds do take a while! As soon as I see anything happening, I'll be so excited, I'll have to share the news! :-)

After a year? I don't know if they will be willing to deal with me at all, even though I have placed two orders with them, but had so many replacements, then charge back, that now they are paying me that I bought from them. What a shame!

Here is my update on some of my seedlings. I got to put up my very first indoor lighting for plants on my own. Yaaayyyy!!! I'm so proud of it. It is just one 48" shoplight with 1 cool white and 1 warm white bulb. I can't hang it in the ceiling so I got this stackable wire rack and put it on top of it. This is my laundry room's counter top. It can still fit like 3 more fixtures of this size.

Marria, that is fabulous! Look at all those green babies. It is really beautiful! Where the heck you going to plant them all once they mature? I have to keep scanning back up. What a green garden you grow.

feighner - so sorry to hear your house was broken into. I do hope they took only material and not sentimental things. I had a break in once and I was devastated. I felt violated. It is a terribly uncomfortable feeling. Hope you can make amends and get a new camera soon. I want to see your seedlings!

Cindeea, VIOLATED starts to cover it, other than a broken window all they got was property, stuff that can be replaced. I do not understand why some people can not leave things alone that do not belong to them. Life does go on.

Soultan...I know...I never thought I could be an electrician too.

Cindeea...Thanks honey! Where to plant them when they mature? Heck I don't know...I'm just enjoying them for now. I definitely know I have friends in FL, CA, IL etc. and even in Australia that I can send them to. Let them take care of that. :-) Or maybe in ebay and get me a greenhouse!

Feighner, i use the float method too. I find it works fine for me. Also I am very impatient so this way I can see exactly what the seeds are doing. I have some seds floating at the moment, and after just under 2 weeks most of them have shot out roots.

How long has it been?

Dizzy - I can't find the exact date I planted them, but I don't think it's been quite 2 weeks yet... I know I wrote down when I planted them, and now I can't find my notes! I have the seed tray on a heating pad... I am expecting some roots or something very soon... I hope!

Maria - What a great job you did with the lights! It looks fantastic! The metal rack was a wonderful idea! And, of course, your little green forest of seedlings look so happy and healthy! Way to go! :-)

Feighner - I know the "violated" feeling... after our house burned, we stored what we could salvage in our garage... thieves came and broke in... they stole anything that wasn't nailed down, and wrecked anything that they didn't take... it was horrible! I know it's just "stuff", material possessions, but why do people have to do things like that? It makes no sense... sorry to hear about your bad experience...

I just got rid of a lot of things I have owned for a long time, realizing that they just tie me down and start to take over my life... Every move reminds me that there is a lot of trash we carry with us in our life... Right now I am holding onto the bare minimum, and most of the sentimental valuables... Now if someone stole those (they have no value), or a fire burned them and destroy them, I'd feel lost for a while... There are things that we all have... Letters from people we cannot meet anymore, who've been gone for long time, a piece of cloth, a torn paper on which we wrote a telephone number of that special someone, awards, handwritings. Things like this...
So I can feel for both of you. When I moved to this country, I had three suitcases mostly full with clothes and only a few papers and valuables. I have abandoned most of my stuff several times... It is good though that you find the strength and value inside of yourself, and even though these stolen and destroyed things hurt, you are worth more than these people or unfortunate events could ruin your life. You see: you are growing your seedlings for instance... Better to live in the present for the future than cry over the past...

soultan, you reminded me of something, rather someone who I had lost. About a year or 2 after my Dad passed, he was such a character, the old fashioned tape recorders we used to use had those tiny reel cassettes in them. The one in our answering machine ripped. I went to the garage and foud the one in the answering machine I had at my old apt. before moving in with my borfriend. I re-wound the tap and played back to erase anything that was on it. I froze in shock. My father's sweet Italian melodic voice was leaving me a message! It must have been 3 years old! I carried that little cassette for the longest time in my purse. It was shocking to hear his voice after so long. Then my purse was stolen and his voice was lost forever. Still in my head I can hear him call me "Belluccia Mia" or something like tat. sigh

Even though we collect all these material possessions, and we haul them around with us from place to place... they are still just that, material possessions. It's what we carry around inside us, our memories and our feelings, that really matter the most, and really keep the past alive.

I, too, Soultan, have walked away from everything I've owned, more than once... it used to hurt, until Larry got through to me that they were just things, and most of them could be replaced, and that I was worth way more than any sentimental object could ever be. I think of some of those things every once in a while, but I know that I made the right choice when I walked away. You are right, Soultan... we need to live now, and look toward the future...

Cindee, somewhere in my mess of current material possessions is a micro tape recorder with a cassette tape in it that plays my Dad's voice... I did an interview with him for an article I wrote a long time ago, and I break down and sob when ever I run across it and hit PLAY... I don't think the ache of losing ones' parents ever goes away... If I could reach through this computer to yours, I'd give you a huge hug, Cindee... for I truly do know how you feel.

I understand exactly what you are talking about. These are these little things we try to hold on for long long time, and these are the things that really hurt when we lose them. If I lose all of my clothes, I can replace all of them, but I will never be able to replace that torn little paper with some numbers on it that was written by someone passed away...

And this is the same sentimental value why Jodi treasures her Minerva so much. She reminds her of her beloved doggie that will never come back, but every time she looks at the flower, the bulb, the green leaves, she remembers and smiles.

I also have a tape with my Grandparents telling us old stories and tales about witches and hidden treasures and stuff like that. I have brought all the cassettes over with me to the US. I am planning to digitalize them, then convert them to mp3 to store them and make a lot of safety copies. I might send one copy to my used to be family. I bet they don't know about these recordings, and they will break down and cry when they get them. The only negative thing about this is that my voice is also on those recordings, so that still makes me think if I should send them or not. But I will most definitely make sure that I will convert them to digital and save them. I will write movies from these stories. :o)
