How long can a Jade live for?
Comments (26)This is probably the tallest at a little over 6'. A random Yeti snuck in so I used him for scale. From this angle it is about 8' wide. There are literally 100's of babies growing at the base. Multiple branching trunks ranging from 4 to 8 inch diameters. Caught the Yeti again. He's looking a little grumpy at my picture taking. This is a regular Jade. It is likely 8 to 10 feet wide from this angle. It has more trunks of smaller diameter than the previous plant. This is my 3rd of 4 large plants. It is not as wide as the others because it gets less light. It does have stouter trunks than the 2nd plant. I planted all 4 of the Jades as background/structure plants for the garden. They get only rain water except for maybe once a year when they are looking parched. Mike, as I commented earlier, these have been in these spots for 25+ years. They were in whole or part in their previous location for 20 years. If they don't rot I think they are good for another 50 years. They will be here when I am gone....See MoreHow long do Amaryllis live and what's oldest one you have in a pot?
Comments (16)It is very beautiful and it kinda reminds me of striatum? I have one that I purchased on Ebay as 'Old Timey Orange' and the seller said that it has been it in his family for a long time. I have mine in the front window and it's sending up two scapes at the moment. I only purchased one bulb and it's got a whole potful of babies next to the mother bulb. Also, it seems to bloom several times a year :-))))...See MoreCommon sense/common knowledge - maybe not so common?
Comments (65)re: cow names - I was a city kid moved to dairy country. Learned all those terms, but the hardest to remember/figure out was Polled Herford vs heifer. And with horses, the difference between a colt and a foal, colt being kind of the generic term many use incorrectly for a foal. That definitely wasn't the limit to my ignorance about country living, that's for sure, but the folks there were equally ignorant about some of the things those of us raised in the city were more familiar with. Usually it has nothing to do with brain power, just exposure. One of my favorite stories about common sense is a cousin who married young, with no domestic skills at all (her mother did everything for her). I was visiting and her husband went to the kitchen to get us some refreshments. He call out, "Susie, why did you put the ice cube trays in the freezer without filling them with water?" She replied, "But we didn't NEED ice cubes." She's not lived that one down....See MoreHow can I get Hippeastrum to bloom?
Comments (6)As to the fertilizer, I can only suggest you contact the manufacturer, since I don't know what they put in it and what concentrations. Generally if an amaryllis is grown with some food, some water, and enough light to make food, it flowers...unfailingly. Something in your cultivation is evidently wrong. Most people do not use soils these days, but use a mix that probably doesn't contain soil or maybe not even sand ;) Though, certainly they can be grown in almost any media with the proper care. I suggest putting them outside for the spring, summer, fall, and only house planting them when the weather requires :0 that will give them the best chance. No plant evolved to be a full time houseplant, they simply tolerate it....See Morebronxfigs: New York City/7b
