New bamboo shoots keeps dying

joss-1

Hi, For some reason 75% of all new bamboo growths are dying off, even on quite mature clumps (2 to 5 years old). Anywhere between 2 inches tall and 15 feet tall, they seem to start off fine and the next thing I know they turn brown. After they are dead I can pluck the (short) growths out of the ground and its mushy. The larger ones reaching 15 feet will even begin to put out top leaves (very tip)and then stop growing and turn brown. For the longest time I figured I was not giving them enough water, so I increased watering them and it still happens. I'm in South Florida where its very hot and many times dry where the ground dries quickly... thats why I thought I might not be spraying them enough, but even with the increase of spraying it still continues. The bamboo types are the dwarf buddah belly and I believe the taller ones are related to the "emerald". Any ideas?? Thanks! Joss
