Where are all the seasoned Hippi growers with wish lists?

You guys have me stumped!! I got my M&Z catalog a few days ago....posted the offerings, and what.....one reply (no offense Jodi)...but geez....usually people would be drooling over the first offerings of the fall season.

Where are all of the usual suspects???? Blana, Elizabeth, Maria, Kitty, Larissa, Ryan(s), Frank, Cindee, Chas, Puma (Mark), etc!! Newbies don't have a list as long as your arm...but the old timers do! Where are you HELLO....hello...hello echo echo echo!!!

I have a sneaking suspicion that everyone is outside enjoying the nice weather of spring! Most of us are busy cleaning up our gardens, getting new things planted, or off doing activities that can only be done without snow!

I'm still wishing for Jewel, an adult San Remo, a very deep red such as Benfica, and more species. I do wish for more, but my limited space isn't going to allow for much.

I would like to get an Apple Blossom that will stay healthy and bloom again in following years. The two I have now have not gained size and are languishing. They're ok... they're just not happy, I guess.

I'd still be outside working in the gardens, but Mother Nature just called a time out, and we got some rain. We really didn't need it, though I suppose these little rainstorms do help make the gardens grow!

I'm here Kristi buddy.My collection is in transition right now and thought of fresh bulbs is EXCITING.John Scheepers has their Fall website update May 18th.I am also chomping the bit wanting bulbs from RC's Paul....Hope all's well with the Gordies. Peace,Mark I have not seen Eagle chick in weeks!

My own holiday wish is not for acquiring any more new roses. Instead I want to get the roses I've been gathering over the past few months planted in a hillside bed by the back fence. First I had to make space. I've slowly been transplanting out some young fruit trees, a three-year-old pomegranate 'Grenada', a two-year-old grape 'Golden Muscat', a one-year-old apple 'Gravenstein', and a three-year-old persimmon 'Izu' . Originally I planned this bit of geography was expanding orchard space, but decided it was too pretty and too visible to give it to anything but roses. Don't worry, food lovers; I have other orchard areas and made room for all these plants elsewhere in my garden. Today I got the first new rose in the ground. 'Alchymist' is to climb the back fence. There are a dozen or so more roses in pots awaiting planting, and I have about ten days to get it done. Relocating the existing plants was heavy work and the hardest part, and that is now done. Many (((hugs))) to all of you. Have missed everyone. Thanks for sharing your lives, flowers, family, and pets. Love it! I sure would have enjoyed that plant exchange, Cindee. Our garden club has one each May. It's such fun. I, too, was not with you for the whole summer. This has been the worst ever summer time-wise. Each time I turned around, something HAD to be done. Art class ran into June (which is no good for me). Then it started again in Sept., but I told her there's just no way, so I got a two-month reprieve. Start again this coming Thursday and am taking my 15-year-old granddaughter Katie with me as a visitor. She has awesome talent and is as bad with art as we are with Hippis. I purchased another garden tractor this summer - I now have three and use them all -- there is just so much to take care of. Have also been picking up kids from school - into June this year, and come Sept. that started again. It's 1-1/2 hours r/t which really cuts into my days. Next year they will at least both be in the same school. Now I'm dog-visiting. My friend went to FL for many weeks and her husband pays me to come and be with them for an hour each day while he works. Oh, and I decided a truck would be in order, so purchased my son's 2000 black Dodge Dakota V-8 Sport. The price was right, and this will be better to carry mulch. It was hard to get with the Explorer (plus it's fun to drive). This way I can just drive up to the mulch heap and have them dump a bucket into the truck. Then I can drive it right to the garden that needs it. My days are all just cut up and I get nothing done. Lots of my plants got frosted, and the hippis were under blankets for several 30 degree days. Had some construction going on until beginning of Oct. and could barely squeeze through the furniture stacked around for probably two months. It was not a bad summer, actually a pretty good one, but it was stressful. For the most part I was healthy, and pretty much kept up with things like the 25-year-old I think I am -- not the 74-year-old that I just turned today. I neglected my orchids and many of the gardens, but the hippis grew and grew. I repotted most of them for the sake of better growing medium. I could probably exchange some orchids in the spring if I get a chance to repot. Right now they should be throwing spikes, so not a good time. Also, some Hippi bulbs. I have to say, this has been like sitting down at a nice table under some palm trees with warm breezes relaxing with a bunch of dear friends that enjoy the same things and understand eachother's obsessions. Soon we'll all be sharing tons of gorgeous pictures. I also have a bunch of bulbs coming from RC and want to order some of those on my wish list. But gotta run now and try to dig the rest of my dahlias.

Hi Jennie. I also did the minimal amount because of my knee. I really bit off more than I could chew this year. It would have been overwhelming even without an injury. My neighbor and I were noticing the in-ground shaded plants are fine, but everything in a container has been suffering in the heat. Well, I've been out in the garden this morning. And although I didn't necessarily set out to do this, I'm in the middle of pulling all the tomatoes in the south garden. I tried to keep some going by cleaning up the bad branches, but in some cases there was nothing left on the plant but the fruit! So, I just picked all the large tomatoes green, and decided to just let them ripen indoors rather than sit outside getting sunscald on the rotting vines. I'm going away for a week, leaving my neighbor to water, so I'm trying to do some garden cleanup before I go. No sense in putting effort into these plants or making my neighbor wonder if they need attention. The east garden - the SunGold and Suncherry might be salvagable -- we'll get to that later. I do have a dehydrator, it's a Nesco, and it has adjustable temperature. It is the round kind and it's fairly inexpensive. It was a gift but I think it was purchased around town. Karen Hause, have you seen the flowers of this sedum? If so what color are they? We don't have a fully authoritative answer but have some strong leads regarding its identity. We'll write more about this, but the flower color would provide additional clarification. Incidentally, side-by-side comparison makes us more convinced that your blue sedum is S. hispanicum not 'Blue Spruce'. We'll write more about this, too.

I am still reeling with the thought of all those Aussie bulbs I Am getting and really can not get much more until I have that new greenhouse. A bulb would have to be REALLY exciting to get me going right now...

Besides, I am knee deep in dahlias and getting them up and divided, reorganized and relabeled and selling the extra tubers. After days and days (it feels like!) or cold downpours and wild winds, today was sunny and windy and wonderful and I spent as long outside working as possible. My head is reeling with all the dahlias I want. CHAD! IT comes in many forms and I rotate through them! Last week it was roses.

Hi Kristi,

I was in southern California visiting my mom until the end of last week. When I returned home, the combination of work, a backlog of correspondence, watering and fertilizing all outdoor and indoor growing areas, quieting the urgent voices of bulbs who could not wait to have their flowers pollinated and carefully labeled along with those that arrived shortly after my return who would not cease pleading and cajoling until they were potted, and the bounty of imported seeds that needed planting has kept me busy. Tonight I enjoyed a night out at a jazz club in San Francisco (just got home). So girlfriend I hope you can understand my absence from the forum.

Regarding the M & Z catalog, it seems that I received it more than a month ago. I may order a few bulbs from them.

I've been peeking in every once in a while, but been quite busy trying to get my garden put away for the season. It's quite a task getting everything tucked away where it will survive. I'm working on creating an indoor grow shelf so I can keep things alive during the summer.

The rest of you are putting your gardens out, and I'm putting mine away ;-)

Ryan, when we put our gardens to bed, it's usually because of cold... you're putting yours away because of heat! That's quite a different concept to me, but having visited Phoenix in August once, I can see why it's necessary.

I recall the heat pressing upon us as we got out of the air conditioned car upon arrival... just breathing and getting used to it was a chore! We had arrived to attend my cousin's wedding, and we spent most of the time in the pool at the hotel, or in the AC at my Aunt's house! It was too hot to stay outdoors for long!

There are other bulbs I'd love to have... Blanca mentioned a few... Yellow Pioneer and a few others that aren't produced anymore... Pasadena is another one I'd love to have, and Ragtime or Double Dragon. I have to stop collecting doubles, though... I'm out of room, and must stick with bulbs that can be pollinated.

Very nice lists, you guys! You're making me want more!

I've been reading the post now and then but been really busy, not only with the garden (I need to arrange everything before the summer, it is really uncomfortable to be gardening outside during it), beside that Mateo is in potty training, so that's a task by itself, he is almost there, just using diaper during naps and at night. He is almost a big boy now. I can't believe how fast times goes!!!
I've been taking special care of a Magic Green bulb I need to send to Ryan in trade for a very big Jewel bulblet he send me, I think I might need to add something to the bag to be fair. And beside there is other bulblets I promise to Kitty. They are kind of small now. I expect for them to grow a little bigger, so Ryan, Kitty don't despair!!!
I also am waiting for the Aussie bulbs, but I have so much bulbs in my want list: Girafe, Grandeur, Pink Floyd, Stripped Panther, Exotic Star, Germa, and some of the species, H. mandonii, H. neopardinum, H. yungacensis, and I can keep on going with this list FOREVER!!! Don't you?
