No!!! You can fill the empty stalk with water and treat it like a cut flower!!! Tut the stalk in a vase of water and change the water in the stalk AND in the vase every 3 days to keep it fresh and you can still get seeds! Please Xuan...don't let your heart break. You can save the seeds with some luck!

My recommendation is to treat it as a special cutflower, but filling the hollow stalk with water is imho not necessary. Instead, change the water every 3rd day, and add a presevative for cut flowers at the recommended dosage every time!
If/when the cut begins to redden and obviously decompose then cut a piece - let's say one or two cm - away.

Luckily I did put the stalk in a glass of water but I didn't really know if that would work. Now you are giving me hope since these seed pods are my first attempts at cross-pollination and I would love to see how the seeds might turn out.

Xuan, my dear friend, I have seeds for you, too. Just in case your stalk doesn't make it, you'll still have seeds to plant.

I think you might be able to save your pollinating attempt, though, by doing as Kristi says, and making sure the water stays clean for your "cut" stalk.

Mother Nature can be cruel, too... I'm sorry that the wind decided to break your first pollinated scape. :-(

Xuan- I am so sorry to hear this news and I will keep my fingers crossed in hopes that your seeds will ripen for you! Please keep us posted on how they progress.

I know it isn't the same as making your own, but I have some I would gladly share with you as well.

Thank you, all my friends. I know it's not the end of the world, but you see... it was my very first attempt at cross-pollination!
On a happier note, my 'the-other-way-round' pollinations (ie Royal velvet x others as refer to the broken stalk as others x Royal velver) are developing seed pods, if I'm not mistaken!

Xuan, I hope your seed pod continues to develop in water - it will be interesting to see if it will. You need to keep us updated. And of course, we'll all pulling for it. I know it's not the same as making your own, but I've got some blooms growing seed pods now including Rembrandt Van Rijn and Amputo. I have pods growing on Queen of Hearts and a white flowered variety... with luck, they should be ready soon! Plus, I have other seeds for you... very soon I'll be getting your package together!

I do hope your cut stalk makes it, and I've got my fingers crossed for your other pollination! Even though some attempts never make it to maturity, it's fun to try. And the nice thing is... there's always next time!
