Some pictures would be worth several thousand words. Those are all fairly noteworthy plants so taking a look at the surroundings to see what would look best may be helpful. At least for me it would.

Front Yard - a Japanese maple although I'm not voting for Emperor One because it exceeds your size requirements. I would plant Fireglow instead.

Side Yard - Either the Redbud or the Serviceberry

Back Yard - Autumn Gold Ginkgo

Re Paw paw. Once established, it begins to sucker and can cover a very large area.

Its hard to get pictures with the right angles now, but here is some to get an idea.

Also if chose a particular variety, I'd be curious to know why. I do have a heavier neutral soil so things tend to grow slower or just don't reach their advertised height.

Side Yard - Replacing the Purpleleaf Sandcherry (has borers). Purple color does look good here, but darkens druing the growing season and doesn't look good from the street.

Side yard - Want to fill that gap. I'll be removing the middle Snowmound Spirea and pulling the bed forward to accomodate for the tree.

Backyard - Extending the bed to the left. Tree will go close to where you see the fire pit. The Maple you see will not shade or touch the tree that will go in there...maybe in 50 years.

For that small area next to the house I would do a JM or fringetree. The emperor 1 as mentioned is probably too big Fireglow might even be too big. Pagoda Dogwood is definitely too big. I'd also suggest putting something evergreen in the corner closest to the driveway.

For the side yard I would plant something like a Green Giant or your regionally popular screening tree and some bowhall red maples or crimson spire oak or something to give you some screening.
That looks like a pretty nice view there of the countryside but make it so when you sit outside in your backyard or look out your windows that you don't see any other homes. Thus I wouldn't suggest any of the plants on your list for the sideyard. Something tall growing to give you shade and screening and some privacy. And something long lived and problem free. You also will problably want some clearance there in case you need to access the back yard with some heavy equipment for some reason.

As for the back yard it's hard to judge from that photo what I'm looking at and where the property line ends. To me it looks like you've got room for one of each of those on your list. Out of all of those, the yellowwood and horschestnut are what interest me the most. I think you need some oaks in there and some maples and beeches. Maybe a tricolor beech.

I'd also choose a Japanese (or Korean) maple for the front yard. I was blown away by the fall beauty of my fledgling j.m.s this year.
If it were my yard, and I had enough money, I'd love to put an Acer shirasawanum ÂAureum (Golden Full Moon maple) in that spot! Our summers are too brutally humid for it.

sue, I wanted an Aureum but money is the issue, lol. JMs are SUPER SUPER slow growing here(think Gingko slow)so I didn't want a small JM from mailorder. I've had multiple nurseries that stock Emperor I and Korean Maple and they all said you'll be lucky if they get 12'-15'.

Eitherway I think I'm set on a JM or Korean Maple for the front.

iforgot, the sideyard is potentially a temp. tree. If those dang Diablos would take off they'd provide a nice screen during the growing season (most important). Then hopefully the neighbors Arbs would take over for screening in the winter. You can't completely tell but there are Celebration Maples to the right and left of the picture. If they mature to their advertised width they "may" just touch eachother and fill in that space completely. But it could be 10-20 years before they mature.

Further left of the sideyard pic is my baywindow. I really wanted to put some Arbs in there but the soil is poor and dry...not Arb like soil. Unless there is a cultivar I'm missing (15'x7')? I don't like upright Junipers.

As for the backyard that berm/hill is owned by the village. Its a barrier between the residential lots and the business park. I bascially have room for one of those trees. My lotline ends where that back mulch bed ends.

Why do you say there's only room for one tree in the back. Are you trying to keep it from hanging over the property line? If so, who cares. There's no neighbor to the rear.

More details...in front of that mulch bed (where you see the dip) that is an easement, behind the mulch bed is an easement. Nothing can be planted in there. If you can see the stump to the left that is where my propertly line ends. Its hard to see but there is a 8' Crusader Hawthorn to the left (with the white plastic wrap). Native Hawthorns are to the right (behind those are Katsuras, you can't see them either).

Are you talking about that lawn space beyond the transformer box?

If I were you I'd go stick some dawn redwoods and Robinia back there. By the time anyone notices, it will be a big forest.

Why don't you put an oak in the space to the right of the photo and in the mulch bed closest to the person taking the picture, that's where you put your yellowwood. Then in the space between that and the maple you put something else.
I still fail to see how those small or medium trees are going to adequately cover you.

Consider the transformer box the corner of my lot. Everything behind is considered an easement. That mulch bed to the back is on the highest portion of the easement.

So I only have room for 1 tree back there. Whats the vote?

Unless you need some vertical height I would plant an acer Japonicum Green Cascade by your entrance. It has the look of a laceleaf japanese maple but with a slightly heavier leaf. Good horizontal growth and great fall color.
