Red spider lilies surviving Z5 winter

Last year I received three red and one white spider lily bulbs in a trade. I wasn't sure if they could survive outside in my zone. The information out there was conflicting at best. So, I decided to experiment, I brought two of the red indoors and left one in the ground. Now, I don't know if was due to the snow insulating it because we had a extremely cold winter. I went outside today and I see leaves. The white one I kept indoor, that sucker has a huge bulb and there no way I was going to take a chance on losing it. I thought I would try it on the white one when it produces some babies. Has anyone else try this with the red or even the white one ?
