Orange tree has lots of strange growth
Comments (8)Can you find the graft? If this is coming from below the graft you should prune the entire branch out. If it's above the graft, then it's just a vigorous new branch. Keep an eye on the fruit on that branch. Many of the current varieties of orange are "sports" which are branches that just grow differently for what ever reason. One such example is the cara cara variety, which is a sport of Washington navel, yet has pink flesh. The fact that you said it has more thorns makes me think that it may be from below the graft (and therefore root stock growth that should be removed) but all citrus has some thorns....See MoreDoes your neighborhood have a history?
Comments (9)Neat story about old Ephraim, Ellen! My little stucco cottage, where we live now in Alabama, was built in 1950 by a son for his mama. The son lived a street over in one direction, and there are a series of fence gates through my neighbor's back yard, and then through MY back yard too. I asked the little lady who lives behind me what that gate in the fence between us was for. She said that she and the other mama were good friends and visited a lot, and that gate meant GOOD NEIGHBORS. So when we bought a strip of her lot and installed a new fence, I made sure to put a new and wider gate in it. Sad to say, the son who built our house recently had a stroke and is not expected to be in his home much longer. Our river house that was destroyed in Katrina sat on land which had a very long and detailed title abstract which came with it. Going back to the folks who came to the region in the mid 1750s. I saved that title abstract from the storm debris and keep it as a reminder of the history connected to any piece of land, if we only knew about it. Mobile was settled by the French in 1711, but that piece of geography where our house was, named DOG RIVER or RIVIERE DU CHIEN, was named that because they heard so many "dogs" barking, and discovered those "dogs" were instead ALLIGATORS. Yep, a very swampy and low piece of land. I just love riverside living....See MoreNew growth on 3 year old maple tree is discoloring and dying. Chicago
Comments (10)i have planted about 750 trees.. and conifers on my 5 acres ... on glacial sand ... [lots of minis and dwarfs] AND NEVER FERT'D A SINGLE ONE ... PLEASE STOP FERTG THIS TREE .. very frankly .. your tree looks GREAT ... i never presume mother nature allows a perfect specimen ... and i would not waste time .. money.. nor exposure on treating for this rather minor blemish .. there is no way that little damage is in any way .. effecting those leaves ability to process sunshine and feed the tree [which is another reason it doesnt need fert] bottom line.. its a tree .. treat it as such.. it is not a child.. that needs feeding.. pampering.. etc .. and BTW ... if you fert the lawn.. this tree will get whatever it needs from that ... no need to double or triple up ... enjoy your tree.. dont fixate on it ... ken ps: my theory is.. the pix are sideways.. because you turned your gizmo to portrait pix ... to take pix of the tall tree ......See MoreDoes Your neighborhood have extravagant Christmas decoration in the fr
Comments (24)In my neighborhood, it's a wreath on the door, some houses have wreaths hanging from all the front windows (I have them on the 3 front-facing 1st floor windows), some have roping over porch or wound around columns, and several have candle lights in each window (I do the same on front and sides - not on back). NO ONE has the roof line outlined in lights, nor are their any blow-up things in the yards. It's all very festive and pretty and quite tasteful. One can see a lite Christmas tree in a window of virtually every house. In one subdivision I drive by on my way to my vet's office, there is a house that is about as tarted up as the above pictures. It must take them weeks to put it all up and take it down, and their electric bill must soar. Oh - the lights flash as well. Glad I don't live across the street - all those lights and all that flashing would drive me nuts!...See Moredavidrt28 (zone 7)
