Red Lion ?

It is hard to know how much the photographing process might have changed the color, particularly in the re-orange range, but it looks to me like Orange Souverein

Welcome to the forum! Your first amaryllis/hippeastrum hmmmm...don't worry, we'll change that! After looking at the gorgeous pics everyone posts, the addiction sets in pretty fast!!

Re the pic you posted, could you describe the color?

It's gorgeous, MsMarion! I agree that it's difficult to get accurate red and orange colors with digital photography... in the photo, it looks red-orange! Without knowing the exact color, I'd guess it's either a Red Lion or an Orange Sovereign.

Is your flower red, or is it more orange? Knowing where you got the bulb could be helpful in naming it, also... if you bought it locally, it's probably a Red Lion...

Whatever its name, it's very lovely! The shape is quite wonderful!

Do be careful, though... we all began with one bulb... and then we bought another... and another... and then we began ordering several at a time from catalogs, and participating in group buys, and it just escalates from there! Pretty soon, you begin to realize that every windowsill you have is full of pots, and you're buying grow lights so you can have more bulbs! It's an addiction, to be sure, but a wonderful one! I love all 45 of my bulbs, and have plans to expand the "family"!

Yes MsMarion and be forwarned that Jodi's never ending pics of gorgeous blooms are one of the most addicting of all! Oh, and beware Arif, Lora, Hans and others, their pictures will make you start hybidizing... OHHHH it never stops!!!

Truthfully I am thankful for all the forum friends that have taken the time to post. Because of their wonderful pics I bought more of these wonderful bulbs and I have been blessed with a beautiful flower each month since October. Now that I have no more blooming, I am suffering from withdrawal...... until my Brent and Becky's order comes that is LOL

Thank you, Jody! I'm just lucky to have a good camera and a husband that knows how to mess with the settings! LOL! I'm also very lucky that he allows me to buy whatever bulbs and plants strike my fancy!

But hey! Gardening is for sharing, and I couldn't just keep all this beauty to myself! I'm glad to have found friends that enjoy these flowers as much as I do! :-)

Marion, dahlink...It's is one of the Red Lion seedlings that self pollinated when I had just 2 amaryllis. Red Lion and Minerva...who actually turned out to be my beautiful Nymph. But if it came from me, baby, it's a Red Lion offspring. I am so glad it bloomed for you...((hugs girlfriend)) hope you stop by this forum more often. AND I have tons of new seeds and seedlings to get you totally hooked on amaryllis this year...heh heh Love you!!

Cindee!!! It's so good to see you posting! We missed you! While you were away, we welcomed MsMarion into the fold, and are shamelessly trying to get her addicted to our habit of choice! LOL! That's a beautiful Red Lion she has! But she needs many, many more bulbs! One lovely red will not do... oh no... she needs more reds, and some pinks, a few whites, bi-colors, doubles, stripes, cybisters... etcetera, etcetera!

Maria... Residence and Bogota are wonderful! Two more penciled onto my over-flowing wish list! And of course, excellent photography once again! Wow! Looks like you've got your hands full with all those wonderful plants!

Now that the weather is finally beginning to break, I can hear mine calling, too! They're saying, "Re-pot us, please!"

And boy, do I have the re-potting to do! Most of those I got last fall will require larger pots and new medium... and now that I know a little more about how to keep them healthy, I've got to completely re-think my medium of choice!

Well... at the very least, signs of spring are finally here! Another month and I'll be outside working, and the winter blues will be a distant memory!

My goodness. This thread certainly got alot of response. LOL Thank you all for you answers and input. I should have written my first amaryllis to bloom as I have six others that are NOIDS at this point. Most all have come from Cindee. She is such an enabler (love ya girl) and has a passion for these wonderful bulbs.
When I lived in New England I always bought one in a box at the holidays to grow on my desk at work. One year my boss put a yardstick in the pot to track the growth! LOL The next year all the girls in the office got them as a gift from him.

Cindee is quite the enabler... she's also very generous and thoughtful, and I have the seeds and plant cuttings to prove it! She has me positively hooked on orchids, and I'm looking forward to warmer weather so I can expand my collection!

Noids are beautiful, too... just wait until those begin blooming!

Me, an enabler???? Noooooo...nothing compared to MsMarion and her troop of east coasters, they've hooked me on everything from Cacti to Bromeliads!!

Maria, I love both Bogota and Residence. Both of them inhibit beautiful shapes and form. They are lovely together.

Aha! The truth comes out! Well, there's nothing wrong with adding another dimension to an existing condition, is there?! I guess it's kind of like a smoker adding cigars to an already existing cigarette habit... only plants are much healthier to be addicted to!

Over winter, I've added iris and daylilies to my existing condition of hippeastrum and orchid addiction! I swear... I'm gonna turn into a plant some day!
