Ginkgo biloba I.D.

Planted in 1988 at 5 ft. tall.

Appears to be a seedling. No evidence of a graft.

As you can see a narrow growth habit with all limbs growing somewhat on the vertical. Unlike all Ginkgo's growing in my area of Eastern Kansas which are shorter in stature with more girth.

Since I have only small dwarf Ginkgo cultivars I am not sure if this is species or some cultivar. How to put a handle on it I am not quite sure.

I am hoping someone can identify it. I know it's a long shot.

I grow this plant since 3 years, nice yellow color all the year without sunburn! But hot summer wind can damaging few leaves. My plant is an upright slowly grow for this moment. This recent cultivar is originated from China and introduced in France (maybe also other E-U country) and grafted by a good nurseryman knowledge. I will post a photo tomorow. Julien

Was browsing around some back pages and found this post. I love ginkgos and grow around 20 different cultivars. One that has eluded me is Elmwood (Pillar).The picture that Dax posted has got me hunting again.Below are some photographs. 'Majestic Butterfly' Jade Butterfly Mariken Yakima Saratoga Autumn Gold A strange and rare occurance: Seed produced on Autumn Gold (summer 2010) I don't know what clone this might be. I was buying some nursery stock from a nursery being liquidated and this was being grown in the sales area. quite nice! Thats all I have pictures of now . Will take more in the coming seasons. john

It is an outdoor landscape tree (semi-dwarf really, grows 6-8" yearly for me). You're welcome to some of the scions, private message me your address and I'll send them along. Are you going to try rooting these or do you have understock ready for grafting? I don't even know if you can root dormant ginkgo cuttings . . .

If a seedling, would it be named?

Growth is similar to 'Sentry'.

That is what we'd consider a fine specimen that has superior branching and a strong central leader. More so than many named cultivars.

Would you say this tree is about 35' tall? If so it is quite vigorous as well.

I'd say it is Ginkgo biloba for sure. Definitely not any of the other species of Ginkgo.

(or have you got a secret time machine the rest of us don't know about? ;-)

I don't see other Ginkgo species mentioned. Is the new edit feature making posts completely vanish? If so, this could get confusing fast.
